Welcome to our individual breakdowns of the Notre Dame 2024 recruiting class. In case you missed it, you can read our overview of this Fighting Irish recruiting class, the second full group of the Marcus Freeman era.
Today, we look at the big fellas up front.
As a reminder, here’s our standard grading scale for this exercise:
95-100: Truly elite prospect with All-American potential
90-94: Multi-year starter with All-conference level potential
85-89: Eventual starter with chance to play as underclassman
80-84: Raw prospect with decent potential but a couple years away from impact
75-79: Likely a backup
70-74: Reach by the coaching staff
OL Styles Prescod
Eric: 93
Prescod’s high school film looks tremendous. If he were 30 pounds heavier we’d be talking about 5-star status for sure. I don’t think his pass blocking is elite for his age but he’s very good right now in this area. He has that nasty side to him and blocks with a lot of strength. If he shows up to Notre Dame with extra weight and in great shape I think he’ll be on track to be a starting left tackle.
Tyler: 90
If he’s able to gain weight without losing his athleticism he might just be the left tackle of the future. He’s got the kind of length and mobility necessary for the position. Hopefully he’ll be afforded the development time he needs instead of being thrust into the position early like Fisher and Alt were.
OL Guerby Lambert
Eric: 92
Lambert is a fantastic prospect with a ton of power and he moves really well blocking down the line. His feet look okay in pass protection but some clunkiness there prevents me from an extremely high grade. You have to think Notre Dame is the type of place that is going to develop his abilities at tackle and eventually he’ll be an awesome player for the Irish. He might be a guard long term.
Tyler: 93
He looks like he has good feet and I really like seeing his ability to stay low while drive-blocking in the run game. He looks like he can be an elite run-blocker and the potential is there in pass pro as well.
OL Anthonie Knapp
Eric: 86
This was one of the more pleasantly surprising highlight tapes of this class for me. Knapp is extremely physical and moves much more like a tight end. His size will be a determining factor for his future. He doesn’t look very big on or off the field, although if he’s able to pack on more weight I think he’ll have a nice career.
Tyler: 85
He moves REALLY well for an offensive lineman, but he’s another guy that will need to add a ton of weight to see the field. He’s listed 266 pounds on the ND roster, and you probably want him to bulk up around 45-50 pounds. His career will depend heavily on how he is able to shape his body over the next couple of years.
OL Peter Jones
Eric: 88
Not only does Jones look like he’s old enough to have a wife and 3 kids but he’s really smooth as a pass blocker, too. He played a lot of right tackle in high school and that could be a good spot for him at Notre Dame. I can also see a really nimble but powerful guard, as well. Either way, he seems like a really tough kid who is going to figure out a way to see the field and start someday.
Tyler: 86
I think Jones is more of a guard and I like his potential there. He seemed to move better in his senior film and the power is still there, too.
If you combine the 24&25 classes, there’s a ton (pun intended) of talent. The future is bright at Oline.
Isn’t every verbal on the OL right now over 6’7″?
