Welcome to this website’s off-season sports sartorial content. We are counting down the world’s top 50 most iconic sports uniforms. Only current uniforms apply, we are not including one-off or alternate uniforms. Let’s stick to the basics.

Auburn Football
The Auburn uniform is massively underrated in the college football world. A list from Athlon back in 2022 didn’t feature the Tigers in their top 25 which is simply preposterous. Since they made our top 50 list of the most iconic uniforms in sports you can believe Auburn ranks extremely high among the CFB ranks?
And why wouldn’t it?
We’ll even drop the bombshell that not only did War Eagle make the top 50 list, we are not including Alabama. If this were a SEC blog we might have started WWIII, but we’ll stick to our guns on that exclusion of the Tide.
Auburn has been with Under Armour for many years (although rumors suggest they may be leaving for another brand after their current contract runs out in 2025) and to their credit they’ve stuck to their traditional uniform design. They’ll occasionally break out white, gray, or orange facemasks for a little different look, plus their all-white road uniforms score really high on any college football list, too.
There’s just something cultured about these home uniforms that stand the test of time. The striping on the helmet, jersey sleeves, and pants are perfect–they should be on exhibit on how to create a sharp and interesting look within a traditional framework.
As I’ve mentioned with Notre Dame (who needs to try this out) the plain white numbers work well for Auburn. They keep the orange as a lightly used secondary color and don’t complicate things by adding it too much in other spots. Lastly, there must be a legion of traditionalists within the Auburn program because their team is always keeping things pretty simple with the accessories. Good for them.
So by iconic, you just mean your favorites?
The guy with a full time job, wife, commute & children should have also created a scientific and fully-objective scale with which to grade all current pro/semi-professional uniforms for his free to read website?
Or just clarify what he means by iconic? Saying Auburn has more “widely recognized and well-established” (Merriam Webster) uniforms than Bama is a tough sell and a very different conversation than saying their uniforms are better in other ways, which I would largely agree with.
He has already embarked on the task you make sound absurd. He has clearly come up with some ranking for these. I am trying to figure out the strategy behind the ranking. Hence the question mark.
I also asked on the second post about Red Sox vs Colts, in which case I got an answer about aesthetics. But then the Netherlands have truly iconic jerseys, but not always the most appealing. So now I am leaning towards favorite.
Hard to tell at first glance if it’s Alabama, WSU, OU, Arkansas or IU.
I’m just trying to have a little fun during the off-season.
WWIII is fun to you????
When Alabama can’t beat Michigan, yes.
Fair
I mean….yes
It goes from 0-5 Refrigerated Sticks of Gum.
I’ve never been too keen with orange in uniforms, but they definitely pull it off as an ancillary color.
Black+orange is a big uniform combo turn off for me as well, so I was extra pleased with our bowl game result from a color palette
Better believe that’s a down vote
Alabama could probably be on this list as well, but I really enjoy the cut of Auburn’s jib uniform-wise. We really need to schedule them.
IMO the uniforms would be better/truly top-tier if they got rid of the orange stripes on the shoulders(but kept the orange trim in the helmets/pants). Just feels like there’s just a little too much going on.
But the orange stripe is what gives it the iconic-ness. It’s basically the same uniform Bo Jackson wore, but without the sleeves. RIP to uniform sleeves everywhere, you will be missed.
Auburn’s home uniforms hit all of ACS’s Principles of Football Uniform Design:
-High-contrast colors
-Official school colors only
-Big shapes, clean lines, no intricate details that can’t been seen from afar
-No monochrome (Their away uniforms violate this but still look decent)
I like the ACSPFUD!
I grew up in a UGA household. Despite hating both teams, UGA has two rivals with excellent uniforms. Auburn’s is fantastic (unfortunately).
