#46
Oklahoma Football
The top 50 iconic uniform countdown continues with back-to-back college football teams and, this feels extremely weird to say still, back-to-back SEC teams as the Oklahoma Sooners transition to their new league for 2024.
Last week I mentioned that Alabama won’t be making the top 50 and with Oklahoma slotting into 46th place you may be wondering why when the schools share a lot of similarities with their uniforms. I’ll tell you why, starting with the shade of red.
Technically, Oklahoma’s official hex code of crimson #841617 is darker than Alabama’s red. From 1976-1999 the Sooners wore a slightly darker red but before and since it’s been about a much brighter crimson. In particular, Oklahoma updated the helmets for 2000 with a metallic paint that has given them candle apple vibes standing out above many other programs.
Five years ago, the school shortened and fattened their interlocking logo which has taken some time to get used to but now looks completely normal.
Research indicates they added “Oklahoma” across the chests of the jerseys for the 1980 season and to close out that year in their Orange Bowl win over Florida State, they switched to “Sooners” which has been in use ever since. Along with the shiny helmets it’s the identifiable part of their iconic look that boosts an otherwise straightforward uniform.
How does their red compare to Indiana? It feels extremely similar, even the uniform design, but my fashion eye isnt as calibrated
OU helmet doesnt have a triple stripe like IU, which I’d say is a big plus.
Also, OU had single leg stripe that’s pretty nice
Big missed opportunity without “Hoosiers” across their chest for a closer OU copy.
OU has great school colors. The cream goes great with the crimson. For their jerseys the white pops way more, but I always love the crimson/cream on regular clothes and paraphernalia.
Yeah, the cream is top notch.
Saban retiring. Whoa.
mots self-reply.
who is the leading candidate to take over????
My list in decreasing seriousness: Smart, Kiffin, Dabo, Jimbo, CMF, Pete Carroll, Bill Belichick
Stealing from reddit: Brian Kelly, Urban.
Why would Smart want to leave? He’s already got his own powerhouse going?
Murtaugh disrepecting Alabama’s uniforms was the last straw.
PROMOTE TOMMY
lol.
In all seriousness, he’s probably heading to LSU, no?
When does the portal open for those players? Do they have to wait until the end of spring or is there a head-coach is fired clause that allows those players to enter the portal sooner?
I think today for 30 days?
