Notre Dame Fighting Irish Lacrosse (7-5) overwhelmed Duke (10-3) in the ACC Championship semi-final on Friday night, 14-11. The Irish will face Virginia in the final, Sunday at noon, ESPNU.
We didn’t have time for a full recap and preview, but the stats to highlight are 5 goals and an assist for Ryder Garnsey, a hat trick for Bryan Costabile and Brendan Gleason, four ground balls each for Jack Kielty and John Sexton, 10 saves for Schmidt, and only 7 turnovers for the Irish! Well done!
The highlights:
The final will be about which teams recovers from Friday night better, and who can stay more disciplined by controlling turnovers. To familiarize everyone with the Cavaliers, here are links to our preview and recap of the 9-7 Irish win a month ago and the great matches between these two teams.
It’s very exciting to have Notre Dame in the final!

Woot! Crushing Duke is always a good thing. This season seemed to fly by. Is a berth in the NCAA tourney dependent on winning the ACCT? or are they likely to get in regardless?
They are probably in, but are exposed if there is some bid stealing if non-favorites win other conference tournaments, or if a team like Denver has a bad loss in theirs and thereby hurts ND’s RPI rank. Our guess is that a win over UVa or Army next week seals it, for sure, but things look good generally with the win on Friday.
Boys did it!
They DESTROYED Uva, 17-7
Wow.
Great time to be peaking!
It’s been about 2 weeks since I posited that the offense would let the team down, so the consecutive double digit performances have been unforeseen and awesome.
