So far this off-season we’ve gone over the NFL scouting reports for the top Notre Dame prospects. If you missed any of those I’ll link to them at the bottom of this article. Today, we are going over the players on the fringe of the NFL world or hoping to get picked up by a team once the draft is completed.
Heights and weights listed are from Notre Dame’s Pro Day
WR Avery Davis
5-10, 199
There may have been a time where Davis was much more of a coveted late-round prospect or ideal free agent signing. After all the injuries and 6 years in college, it would be hard to argue his ceiling is very high or that a roster spot is in his future.
Davis ran a 4.56 and 4.57 in the 40 during the Pro Day which is pretty solid for someone nearly tipping 200 pounds. Due to his leadership abilities and decent production when healthy I think he’ll sign a contract somewhere this off-season.
Prediction: Undrafted free agent
OG Josh Lugg
6-6, 306
Lugg’s height and length are going to have a few NFL teams doing their homework on him to see if he could develop a little more as a professional. However, he’s looking at the NFL after 6 years in college and suffered through plenty of nagging injuries that have slowed him down. At the Notre Dame Pro Day he ran a 5.70 time in the 40-yard dash which would’ve been the slowest time at the NFL Combine by two-tenths. The athleticism just isn’t there anymore.
Prediction: Camp invite
DT Chris Smith
6-1, 302
When we talk about having a quiet graduate season the name Chris Smith is always going to come up. The former Harvard product did some nice things for the Irish but wasn’t able to differentiate himself among the defensive linemen. He was down 8 pounds at the Pro Day from his 2022 listed weight but to me he doesn’t carry 302 pounds very well at all. He’ll probably get an invite somewhere but is a longshot to stick around in the NFL.
Prediction: Camp invite
DE Justin Ademilola
6-1, 254
Ademilola may be someone to watch late in the draft and definitely once he has signed somewhere. Although he was less heralded than his brother Jayson, there were times in their careers when Justin was playing better. He also offered plenty of versatility playing on the strong-side and taking reps on the weak-side, too. I thought his Pro Day was a little disappointing, though. Despite almost 25 fewer pounds than his brother and a nearly 3-inch shorter wingspan, their testing numbers were virtually identical across the board. Especially in the speed and agility categories, that’s not great for Justin.
Prediction: Undrafted free agent
CB Tariq Bracy
5-10, 182
In this article 2 years ago, Ben Skowronek ended up getting picked in the 7th round and if there’s going to be someone who pulls that off in 2023 it’ll be Tariq Bracy. I was a little surprised that he didn’t add more weight for Pro Day but Bracy ran a very good 4.54 time in the 40, plus his vertical jump, broad jump, bench, and shuttle times were excellent for his size. Anything coming his way once the late 5th round comes around wouldn’t surprise me.
Prediction: Undrafted free agent
S Houston Griffith
Griffith did not participate in the Notre Dame Pro Day and I’m guessing his football days are over?
Prediction: Real World
Full Scouting Reports:
TE Michael Mayer
OL Jarrett Patterson
DT Jayson Ademilola
DE Isaiah Foskey
S Brendan Joseph
I really don’t get Justin A not coming back – and it kind of sounded like it was a mutual/really even coaches’ decision.
It is strange. Didn’t he really flash in his last game or two as well? But then again, his measurables are bad, his senior year was a stepdown compared to junior, his brother was gone so that might be a drag…Might have been just time to move on and start fresh for everyone.
I do agree all things considered that it doesn’t make a lot of sense on the surface. But why do they also seem to not like or favor Keanaaina at all? Some odd decisions around DL these days, but it’s not like any of these guys are Warren Sapp or anything either..
It’s the weirdest DL thing since the coaches pushed out Jay Hayes… which ended up working out fine in 2018. So, hopefully same this time.
