For our 29th uniform concept for Notre Dame football we’re going way, way, way back. All the way back to the beginning of the first football team on campus. Yes, that’s right back to 1887 a year in which the AAU was formed, the Eiffel Tower began construction in Paris, Queen Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee, and the United States first signed a lease on Pearl Harbor.
Forty-five years into the University of Notre Dame’s existence they decided to finally field a football team. In doing so, they preferred attire in line with the country’s most popular sport at the time: baseball.
Today’s concept is a fauxback to this uniform first worn 130 years ago this past fall.
The bad news is that Notre Dame lost its first game to Michigan in these uniforms. The good news is that they made the all-white look good long before the likes of Texas made it a tradition.
Sharp kits.
Still amazed at how I, as a 33 year old, look 15 years younger than most of the people in the 1887 picture.
i like most of the white on white uniforms, however, the ND letters on the arms is a tad too boring
Maybe because I was a history major, it I actually like it a lot. I’m just wondering if there would be a way to put the “ND” on the front of the jerseys without running afoul of NCAA regs (lights Clearwall signal).
That was what I was trying to think of too.
The rules say that the numbers MUST be 8×10″ and be a clearly contrasting color. Maybe if you moved them down a little and put the N—D across the top you could do it?
Also the Bahamas Bowl sounds like the best possible post season game to attend
