Today marks our 30th Notre Dame football uniform concept and our first of the 2018 New Year. This is also the 4th and final concept from our friend Clint Glaze’s throwback collection. As luck would have it this concept runs at a perfect time.

In 1981, the Fighting Irish hired Gerry Faust who changed the school’s 3 1/2 year tradition of wearing green for all games to the more familiar blue. Except, he didn’t return the team to the dark navy blue and instead outfitted the players in a lighter blue dubbed, “Madonna” blue.

This would be a look the Irish would wear for 3 years, largely lost to history as the program struggled on the field. For us today it works out well as #81 on the current roster is none other than Miles Boykin, reigning MVP of the Citrus Bowl thanks to his game-winning touchdown against LSU.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, IRISH.
