The secret if officially out. After leaks from the College Football 25 video game (and early release beginning this past Monday evening) the world knew that Notre Dame was changing up its uniforms for the 2024 season. In this case, it’s just a small change to the home jersey. So far, at least. If we are to believe the video game, the away uniform set will remain the same as last year.

Do you like gold?

The most visual change comes to the monogram on the shoulders which has switched from white outlined in gold to a fully shiny/metallic gold with no outline against the blue jersey. Also included in the changes are the player numbers now outlined in the same shiny/metallic gold, as well. Notre Dame released some studio shots of the new look today:

What’s the verdict?

I think it’s a step backwards for the home uniform as a whole. The biggest issue is that the new monogram on the sleeve will be difficult to see on the field in different lighting conditions. That’s a weird thing to happen when you’re switching to a shiny new fabric, right!? Additionally, having the shoulder logo in all-gold throws the jersey off-balance when it used to match the numbers. If you want another quibble, the front helmet bumper is gold outlined in blue, but without any metallic, and looks even more out of place now.

I’m a little surprised that they didn’t switch the player numbers to the shiny gold if only to match things, but I’m guessing that came down to a couple factors. One, it would’ve been too difficult to see those numbers and the jerseys would’ve been required to be changed by officials. Two, switching to all-gold numbers was probably too much against tradition.
