The journey to display the best high school football uniforms in the United States enters our sixth installment. Last week, we looked at Lawmen in Connecticut, Eagles in the District of Columbia, and state champions in Oklahoma.
Our Countdown So Far:
#27 Vanden HS, California
#26 McKay HS, Oregon
#25 Bishop Gorman, Nevada
#24 Orange HS, Ohio
#23 Mountain View HS, Idaho
#22 St. Vincent-St. Mary, Ohio
#21 Long Beach Poly, California
#20 Chaparral HS, Arizona
#19 Duncanville HS, Texas
#18 Manasquan HS, New Jersey
#17 Fenwick HS, Illinois
#16 Carroll HS, Texas
#15 Jonathan Law HS, Connecticut
#14 Gonzaga College HS, D.C.
#13 Bixby HS, Oklahoma
As always, we welcome your ratings in the comment sections, plus any submissions especially if they are from small schools not well known throughout the country. On today’s countdown we travel to the north of Baton Rouge, in to the heart of Miami, and yet again back to the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
#12 Zachary High School
Location: Zachary, Louisiana
Mascot: Broncos
Enrollment: 1,581 (public)
Our top 12 kicks off with Zachary High just to the north of Baton Rouge. This is one of the strongest teams in Louisiana featuring Alabama 2023 commit Eli Holstein at quarterback. Their standard home and away Nike uniforms are nice but wouldn’t make this list on their own. Zachary has a hard time balancing their colors with a lot of blue looking out of place with a lot of red on another parts of their uniform.
However, these all black uniforms from Jordan are chef’s kiss. Unlike most of their other uniform combinations they get the color balance right on these ones. Their Columbia blue shines well against the black and few schools have a sharper logo than a giant chrome “Z” on their helmet.
#11 Miami Northwestern Senior High School
Location: Miami, Florida
Mascot: Bulls
Enrollment: 1,498 (public)
One of the more well-known schools in Miami checks in at No. 11 on our list. The Bulls have won several 6A state championships in Florida and even have an USA Today National Championship in their trophy case. Some of their big-name alums include Teddy Bridgewater, Tutu Atwell, Amari Cooper, Lavonte David, and Deandre Baker.
Northwestern has done a ton of mixing and matching through the years with their yellow, blue, black and white colors. However, they’ve been using a monochromatic yellow uniform for a long time and finally got the Jordan treatment recently. They have an extremely high school looking blue bull logo who is snorting and charging through cloudy dust. It’s an iconic Florida program and uniform.
#10 Trinity High School
Location: Euless, Texas
Mascot: Trojans
Enrollment: 3,618 (public)
***Note: As we break into the top 10 we will feature more than one uniform per school. This type of respect can only be earned.
Our top 10 begins with the school folks in Texas call Trinity but others outside of the Lone Star State more commonly call Euless Trinity. They’ve won a few state titles in their day and are coming off an 11-2 season in 2021 with a tough loss to fellow Texas power Allen High School in the playoffs. The Trojans’ campus sits just 8 miles southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
Their home set might be one of the most simple uniforms to feature on our countdown. Simply wonderful. It’s like if Texas Tech remodeled their uniforms and hit a homerun. If an alien came down to earth and wanted to know about football uniforms this template is a good one to display as the right way to do it. You can’t go wrong with bold and contrasting UCLA stripes on the shoulder that match the pants stripes. They also have sleek black and white road uniforms, and like many of the prominent Nike schools, also a new Jordan uniform–these featuring silver numbers.
Up next: A pair of powerhouses from California and Florida, plus an island school.Â
These are fine, but I feel they are getting worse. Better selections in past groups. Miami Notrhwestern makes me feel like Futureman from Bottle Rocket: “He looks like a little banana.”
I’m pretty jealous of the uni options these 17 year olds have. They get to ball out in crisp clean threads every week. Is this a post-Oregon thing? I dont really remember alternate duds prior to them flooding the scene with wild combinations, does anyone else?
I remember when I was in HS 20 years ago, we’d swap pants and tops to give us 4 uni combos, but we never had a 3rd uniform. We were also not a state, nor regional, power.
You guys are getting combos?
I’m really surprised at some of these schools having multiple helmet choices. That ain’t cheap.
Black pants / Silver pants + White top / Black top
I’ll forever be jealous of that color combo. On a scale of 1 to al davis, how much did you look like the raiders?
Much better, because we also had orange trim on both
I went to a state powerhouse and we had one helmet with one-sided logo, home and away jerseys, and one pair of pants. They’re nice uniforms, but definitely didn’t follow the Oregon trend.
Adding a red trim for playoffs was a fun tradition, though.
