The journey to display the best high school football uniforms in the United States enters our fifth installment. Last week, we looked at wonderfully basic uniforms from New Jersey, an old school pipeline program in Chicago, and a growing power in Texas.
Our Countdown So Far:
#27 Vanden HS, California
#26 McKay HS, Oregon
#25 Bishop Gorman, Nevada
#24 Orange HS, Ohio
#23 Mountain View HS, Idaho
#22 St. Vincent-St. Mary, Ohio
#21 Long Beach Poly, California
#20 Chaparral HS, Arizona
#19 Duncanville HS, Texas
#18 Manasquan HS, New Jersey
#17 Fenwick HS, Illinois
#16 Carroll HS, Texas
As always, we welcome your ratings in the comment sections, plus any submissions especially if they are from small schools not well known throughout the country. On today’s countdown we travel to New Haven County, the country’s capital, and the suburbs of Tulsa.
#15 Jonathan Law High School
Location: Milford, Connecticut
Mascot: Eagles
Enrollment: 834 (public)
I had never heard of Jonathan Law HS prior to researching this series. It’s one of the smaller schools to make our list and while their mascot is technically the Eagle the male sports teams go by the “Lawmen” which is awesome. Very rarely do you see public schools in Connecticut develop into legit Division-I football players, so this probably is one of the weakest programs in our countdown, too. I also can’t find any indication of which company makes their uniforms, either. I guess you could say their apparel situation is lawless.
They more than make up for their relative obscurity in the football world with their uniforms. They have an all-white uniform for the road (with these black helmets) which looks nice. This all-black home uniform is special, though. It has strong Pittsburgh Steelers throwback vibes and little things like the helmet stickers, Southern Connecticut Conference patch, and school patch add some flavor and a more professional feel to everything.
#14 Gonzaga College High School
Location: Washington, D.C.
Mascot: Eagles
Enrollment: 962 (Catholic, all-male)
This uniform was shared in our Slack chat and wasn’t popular. I’m going to forget the haters, on this website we respect purple. Gonzaga is a pretty well know school nationally and was home to former Oklahoma and now USC quarterback Caleb Williams in the 2021 recruiting class. I really like their all-white road uniforms with the purple helmets but their home uniforms are where they really shine.
Once again, a school with a Jordan uniform makes the list. Here, Gonzaga gets the elephant print very subtly on their shoulders and pants stripes. The cursive script on their jersey is also great. You can’t see it in this picture, but Gonzaga also has a large “G” sticker on the back of their helmets. Despite our writer’s protestations, this is a great all-around set.
#13 Bixby High School
Location: Bixby, Oklahoma
Mascot: Spartans
Enrollment: 1,834 (public)
This school caught my eye for a couple reasons. One, it’s difficult to make blue and red work in a way that pops and isn’t boring. Two, they won a state title a few years back and decided to ditch their Michigan State Spartans helmet logo and went with the absolute baller move of adding this bold “B1XBY” font to their helmets with the “1” colored in red.
Also, this high school has maybe the best football website I’ve ever seen. They are really putting a lot of effort into their program. This is one of a few Under Armour schools to make the list, so good for them. I don’t have anything else to say about Bixby except these just look fresh and timeless in a way that they should keep for many years to come.
Up next: We take a look at a program down in the Bayou, then at a Miami powerhouse, and back to yet another large Texas high school.
I feel like if you go with “Bixby,” you have to wear all green. RIP.
What that mean.
Bill Bixby, the original Hulk.
I would rec this more if I could.
(reply-fail, meant to reply to idocd’s first post)
I have some notes on the throwing technique of #1 on B1XBY
Prioritizing a quick release.
I didn’t realize Golson had a younger brother.
I’m hoping that one’s a halfback pass
^Definitely looks like the blocking technique of a QB in the background, so that’s probably the case
