The journey to display the best high school football uniforms in the United States enters our second installment. Last week, we witnessed some cool Vikings, tartan pattern from an Oregon school, and a posh suburban Las Vegas school make the list.
What will be in store this week?
Our Countdown So Far:
#27 Vanden HS, California
#26 McKay HS, Oregon
#25 Bishop Gorman, Nevada
As always, we welcome your ratings in the comment sections, plus any submissions especially if they are from small schools not well known throughout the country. On today’s countdown we travel to the outskirts of Cleveland, all the way to western Idaho, and back across the country again to northeast Ohio.
#24 Orange High School
Location: Pepper Pike, Ohio
Mascot: Lions
Enrollment: 697 (public)
Our 24th best uniform comes from a smaller public school in the greater Cleveland metro area with the wonderfully named Orange High School in Pepper Pike. I know what you’re thinking, “Not enough orange though?” You’d be right, I think. As far as I could tell, this Ohio school doesn’t use a ton of orange which is curious with the nearby Cleveland Browns sitting right there for some inspiration.
This mostly black look with orange accents is nice, though. Orange High School uses the Oregon logo which you can see on their collar, and is adorned on the left side of their helmets which you can’t see in this picture. I am a little partial to this look as it’s similar to my local high school color scheme. However, the black helmet with the chrome orange is fantastic.
#23 Mountain View High School
Location: Meridian, Idaho
Mascot: Mavericks
Enrollment: 2,251 (public)
I found this school on one of my deep dives and loved every minute of researching more about their look. To be honest, Mountain View is among the more wild schools when it comes to alternates and colors. Their primary logo is the Houston Texans logo although their uniforms take much more inspiration from the Seattle Seahawks organization about 500 miles to the northwest of their campus.
This is a relatively new school, founded in 2003. That’s why you don’t see some boring colors like black and red. Instead, they use navy blue, kelly green, white, with some silver. Plus, check out this alternate helmet logo. You have the “M” and “V” with bull horns and am I crazy to think it’s also supposed to look a little like a cowboy hat, too?
#22 St. Vincent-St. Mary High School
Location: Akron, Ohio
Mascot: Fighting Irish
Enrollment: 638 (Catholic, co-ed)
[LeBron James kid voice]: LeBron James. We’re back in Ohio for the high school of The King and the Fighting Irish. When James was in high school SVSM wore green pants with their home green jerseys or road white jerseys. For the most part, the school has continued the use of a plain gold helmets throughout the years keeping some connection to that famous school in Indiana.
Recent uniforms for SVSM are really sharp. They use a brighter green for their jersey and you know the script Irish is always appreciated. Also, check out the white numbers on the front/back but gold numbers on the shoulders–a nice touch. Additionally, you can’t not like their punching leprechaun school logo on their front left hip, plus a subtle intricate pattern on the side of their pants.
Next up: A growing school in Arizona, an iconic program in California, and one of many Dallas suburb schools who fought hard to make our list.
Prediction: Orange is well represented on this list
Over/Under set at 5.5 schools, take your pick.
21 more schools, I’m resetting it at 15.5 and taking the over.
