Argentina Soccer

Our 4th international soccer team to enter the top 50 countdown brings us the reigning World Cup champion La Albiceleste. The first Argentina soccer kit was all white in 1902 and then in 1908 the team dropped a white collared shirt with vertical sky blue stripes that has become one of the most memorable in sports to this day.

The iconic jersey has changed very little over the years. In 1976, the Argentinian soccer federation logo was added to the left chest.

In 1998, the team wore dark blue collars for the first time. Except for 2 years in 1999-2000 when they were sponsored by Reebok, the country has worn Adidas kits since 1989 which have become synonymous with legendary star Leo Messi (currently enjoying a $1 billion lifetime contract with the brand) now playing club soccer in the MLS–a league with all Adidas branded kits.

Argentina didn’t stray too far from their look for many years but like many countries they have become a little more liberal with their designs in recent years. The 2019 kit featured navy blue trim and a very light blue striping pattern made up of tiny little lines. In 2020, the navy trim was gone but the classic sky blue stripes were literally filled with cloud-like blotches.

The 2022 kit which the country would win the World Cup in was back to basic with navy trim and solid sky blue vertical stripes. Just recently, the team debuted a new kit that is pretty basic and features gold logos as reigning world champions. It’s a sharp kit, although a blue stripe wrapping around the white shorts looks out of place for a traditional powerhouse.
