#18
Celtic Soccer
No, we aren’t talking about the Boston Celtics (will they make the list??) today. Instead, it’s the Bhoys who come in at no. 18 in our countdown. From the Scottish Premier League we will feature The Celtic Football Club from Glasgow.
Like many other soccer teams, Celtic have dabbled in various colors for their away and 3rd kits through the years. However, their home kit began as bright green and white in 1888–and except for small splashes of black–has remained that way ever since.
Also known as the Hoops for the distinctive horizontal striping on the jersey, this design came about for the 1904-05 season and Celtic have never worn anything else on the home sit since.
Known to be an Umbro sponsored kit for many years, the team switched to Nike in 2005 before signing with New Balance in 2015 and finally Adidas since 2020.
The current home jersey features maybe the most black ever seen on a Celtic kit with dark piping, trim, and the distinctive Adidas 3 stripes on the shoulders. It’s quite a departure given Celtic’s tradition, but if leaks are to be believed the team is returning to a very simple and old-school design for the 2024-25 season.
The thing that Nigeria’s national uniforms, #36, have over these is that I was previously familiar with Nigeria. But hey, Celtic does have the second most titles of any team in the 11th place UEFA league. Pretty good!

The stripes look like pond scum.
I agree that the fuzzy green stripes (which upon zooming appear to be a fieldstone pattern?) are not their best look.
Here’s a more representative – and appealing – look from their past:
Let’s try that again
That’s sex.
Their best one more recently is the 2017 Lisbon one with the gold writing
Another good one is the centenary kit where they used part of their old badge of a Celtic cross, as the club was founded by a priest for Catholics
I really like these but was 100% unaware of their existence before now. That’s on me, though, I admit I skip the “other football” section and go straight to the F1 part. Even though, spoiler alert, Max always won (fuck yeah though Lando is my boy).
