#2

New York Yankees

Of course, the Yankees would probably be the vast majority of American’s picks for the most iconic sports uniforms in the world. I do have them at no. 2 so let’s not get too upset! Their hats and the prevlance for people all over the globe to wear baseball caps has served the team well with their unmistakable “NY” logo that everyone knows.

Plus, the pinstripes.

However, let me explain why I think the Yankees didn’t deserve the top spot.

One, I’m not sure baseball is popular enough today and we might be surprised at how many 25 and under people throughout the world might not know the Yankees branding like the back of their hand. If someone is 22 years old right now, the last New York title came when they were 7 years old and Derek Jeter retired when they were roughly 14 years old.

Two, the Yankees uniforms are objectively far worse today than in the past. The plain look has been sullied with a New Era logo on the hat, a Nike logo on the jersey, and the prevalence of individual accessories among the MLB players really hurts that hardcore uniformity that the Yankees were built on for decades.

Plus, they now have a jersey sleeve sponsor. George Steinbrenner is rolling around in his grave.

At the end of the day, it is the Yankees though. In 50 years, will they still be ranked this high?
