Welcome to this website’s off-season sports sartorial content. We are counting down the world’s top 50 most iconic sports uniforms. Only current uniforms apply, we are not including one-off or alternate uniforms. Let’s stick to the basics.
#34
Juventus
After a few spots in the rankings we are back in Italy for another Serie A club in the #34 slot. Today, we focus on the 36-time national champion Juventus with some of the best nicknames in all of sports. You can choose The Old Lady, The Girlfriend of Italy, The Lady, The White and Blacks, The Zebras, or just simply Juve. No club has more used nicknames in soccer.
There’s a case to be made that Juventus deserves to be higher on this. Maybe much, much higher. In terms of purely recognizable kits they are top 3 in the world for soccer. However, like we mentioned in the Manchester United article a while back this is also another club that is not in a very great period for uniforms.
After a few years at the turn of the 20th century, Juventus settled into a remarkable consistency with their kit. From 1903 until the spring of 2019 their home uniform consisted of vertical black and white stripes in some form with either black or white shorts. The width or amount of stripes varied through the years but that’s pretty much it.
The first big earthquake came for the 2017-18 season when the club released a controversial new crest as seen in the above photo. Adidas had taken over the club’s kits back in 2015-16 and they really pushed boundaries for 2019-20 when the home jersey was a single white panel on the right and single black panel on the left separated by a thin pink line.
Juventus has returned to their familiar look since then–with some interesting details–but then came into this year deciding on the use of a pale yellow trim color that is a major departure on their home kit. They’re still iconic but not quite as much as the past.
Cool The just escaped from prison look
Given the team’s history it’s kind of appropriate hey yooooo.
Trying to help PSU get up the list some:
Have to admit I did a double take when I saw the main article photo. Didn’t think the white hoods were gonna make the list, but then I realized it was a somewhat less objectionable Italian soccer club. Gotta go for AC and our boy Pulisic.
If this is any harbinger, FootLocker gonna come in high on the “Top 50 Iconic Uniforms in Corporate America”
