Uniform of the Week
I’m torn on the Kansas State. They seem to be going on 30 or maybe even 40 years without significantly changing the style of their uniforms. I think they’ve worn a couple different white helmets for very brief alternate looks but otherwise have never participated in the ever-changing looks that have permeated most of college football. I like purple too, probably more than your average dude. In a vacuum, I like their uniforms.
Still, the lack of any updates has been super boring. Like their Big 12 brethren TCU we know there are some cool things you can do with purple. I guess I don’t have anything critical to say about the Wildcats other than I do wish we’d see something different once and a while. So far, without Bill Snyder on the sidelines that hasn’t been the case yet.
Recruiting
After surprising a lot of folks and leaving Arizona State, quarterback Jayden Daniels has landed in LSU to play for Brian Kelly.
Jacksonville State All-American defensive end DJ Coleman is transferring. He has 17 sacks in his career.

Tulane linebacker Darius Hodges had 16.5 tackles for loss last year (t-18th nationally) and is leaving the Green Wave.
Rice wide receiver Jake Bailey is transferring. The rising senior led the Owls with 56 catches and 714 yards last year.
Florida State has picked up a verbal from North Carolina defensive lineman Keith Sampson (0.9212) over the weekend.
Interior offensive lineman Antonio Tripp (0.8953) committed to Miami.
YouTube Channel
Welcome to Dorktown and Secret Base! If you haven’t checked out this YouTube channel co-created by SB Nation’s Jon Bois what are you doing with your life? In addition to being a cheeky and funny Twitter follow, Bois really does a fantastic job putting together these videos, including several long series of videos. One of my favorites was the history of the Seattle Mariners and today we feature the history of the Atlanta Falcons.
I’ve always had this memory hole about the early years of the Falcons. They seemingly never crossed paths much with my local Buffalo Bills and for me the franchise always felt like the Orlando Magic in that they arrived in the early 1990’s with Shaq, in this case for the Falcons it was with Deion Sanders just a couple years earlier. That’s part 3 of the amazing 7-part series, by the way. It’s long but worth your time.
Tunes
Some of you may know the story surrounding Lynyrd Skynyrd’s song “That Smell” written by lead-singer Ronnie Van Zant (3rd from left below in the album cover) and guitarist Allen Collins (far left) about guitarist Gary Rossington (second from left) crashing his car into a tree after a night of booze and drugs. The band recorded the song in the summer of 1977, released their album Street Survivors on October 17, 1977, and their chartered flight crashed in Mississippi 3 days later killing Van Zant and guitarist Chris Gaines (center). In a twist of irony, Rossington is now the only surviving member of the band today.
I think Skynyrd is in the running as the best American band of all-time, certainly in the rock edition. But I really feel passionately about “That Smell” being perhaps the best American song. It’s an all-time great intro and ending, literally perfect in every way. There’s like 5 guitar solos that fit in so well and don’t seem like it’s just a bunch of solos. The guitar work is just sensational. The lyrics are so perfect for the excessive 1970’s rock lifestyle. Epic backing vocals from the women. Such a perfect song. It sucks that the band never got to play this song live after releasing their album and it makes me wonder how much of a cult following it would’ve achieved like “Free Bird” and “Sweet Home Alabama” in comparison.

Who is the highest selected Notre Dame defender from Renaldo Wynn in 1997 until the 2021 NFL Draft?
The Other Football
The Champions League was back this week. Bayern Munich smashed RB Salzburg to move on to the quarterfinals while Liverpool held off Inter to do the same. Manchester City didn’t need to do anything up 5-0 to cruise past Sporting. It was an awful Wednesday night as PSG blew a 2-0 lead to allow 3 straight goals against Real Madrid sinking yet another UCL season for the French club.
City blasted United 4-1 in the Battle of Manchester this past weekend to take a 6-point lead atop the Premier League.
Roman Abromovich wants close to $4 billion for Chelsea with Americans Woody Johnson (NY Jets) and Thomas Ricketts (Chicago Cubs) among a group of nearly a dozen potential buyers ready to submit offers for the club. In the short-term, the UK government has sanctioned Chelsea and won’t allow the club to buy new players, agree to new contracts, sell new tickets, sell new merchandise, and they want to control the sale of the club with no proceeds going to Abromovich.
Streaming
Okay, so this week we have a bit of a pre-streaming era look at television. I stumbled across this video recently and it was right in my sweet spot for the start of my television experience beginning in 1986. A couple things jump out right away. Obviously, the viewership in the 1980’s oh my goodness. The Cosby Show is over 60 million to start the video and in the 1990’s no one got over 50 million except Seinfeld very briefly.
The beginning is important for me because I’ve always viewed CBS as the “old people” channel and seriously uncool channel. Almost the entire late 1980’s they only have Murder, She Wrote on this list before Murphy Brown shows up! This has caused me to almost exclusively tune out CBS from my brain. Even in the mid 2000’s when CBS was killing it with ratings I can honestly say I’ve never watched a single series on this channel. I’m Googling Without a Trace and I have no recollection of this show being on television. None of those actors look even remotely familiar and I’m pretty sure the show was fake. Also, Game of Thrones made HBO so, so much money. Nearly 60 million in modern times is absurd.
A Look Back
This week we’re headed back to Tallahassee for the 2021 opener. This game feels like it was played 2 seasons ago. Do you remember how worried and pissed off so many were during this and especially late when Notre Dame nearly coughed up a victory? I remembered this being a tight game throughout but didn’t specifically recall the Irish leading 38-20 into the 4th quarter, though.
More specifically, think about the reaction then to Marcus Freeman’s debut as defensive coordinator to then being named head coach 4 months later. It’s pretty funny, right? Well, so long as Freeman’s tenure at Notre Dame works out. *laughs nervously*

The grid is officially set for real this time as Haas did end up sacking Nikita Mazepin in favor of bringing back Danish veteran driver Kevin Magnussen who has 119 starts under his belt. It’s a solid pick by the American team and Magnussen will offer some crucial competition and comparison with young teammate Mick Schumacher.
The Russian Grand Prix has been cancelled with F1 looking at alternative tracks for the September 25th race. Portugal, Turkey, Qatar, and Malaysia are in the running as well as a possible 2nd race at a place like Bahrain on the outer track.
Max Verstappen signed an extension with Red Bull through the 2028 that is worth a reported $53.3 million per season, according to Dutch sources.
Teams have agreed to a 3kg weight increase for the cars in 2022.
Aston Martin is open to building their own engines with the new regulations coming in 2026. That could potentially shake up the grid as rumors continue to swirl that the Volkswagen Group is poised to join the sport in the same year with Porsche aligning with Red Bull and Audi with McLaren.
The 4th season of the popular Drive to Survive drops today on Netflix. Elsewhere in media, Apple TV have secured the rights to an upcoming Lewis Hamilton documentary while Apple Original Films are working on a F1 movie starring Brad Pitt and directed by Jerry Bruckheimer.
The biggest buzz of Thursday’s testing in Bahrain was Mercedes unveiling a new body and floor design. The so-called “zero sidepod” design features extremely shrunken down cooling inlets with some extra packaging up top near the engine cover. They’ve also used the side impact structure for their mirror mount with tons of aero bits in and around the area. Will it work for the defending constructor champions? It certainly seems like it’ll be controversial and possibly flagged as illegal by other teams.

Trivia Answer:
Jerry Tillery 28th overall in 2019.
For an off week a lot to unpack in the weekly rambler. It’s a good one.
Herbstreit was on the russillo podcast a couple weeks ago and really seemed to tease out calling more nfl games so not a huge surprise.
The harry miller retirement announcement was pretty powerful. I know ryan day lost his father to suicide at a young age so makes sense they handled it as well as they did. I am really impressed by ryan day and hope for the best for harry miller.
Jayden daniels news was weird to LSU. Live in phoenix so see a lot more of him than most. Consensus amount ASU fans is sucks he’s gone not sure he’s great, definitely not sure he’ll excel in the SEC. No idea how BK will balance that qb room.
The second you mentioned skynard my first thought was about an ongoing debate a buddy and I have about them being the greatest american band so to see you mention it in the second paragraph was fitting. our conclusion always ends up it has to be them, right? right?!?
lastly that trivia answer was pretty sobering. sad that it’s not jaylon at 4th overall and sad there is no one else
I didn’t know that about Ryan Day’s father.
He was just a kid too. Couldn’t imagine. I get harbaugh “born on third base” quip about day and ohio state after michigan finally won and he was feeling himself but man it’s hard not think of all that ryan day has overcome to get to where he is.
Well thankfully for LSU Kelly’s never had issues with managing quarterbacks.
Just googled a few lists of Greatest American rock bands and Skynrd wasn’t near the top of any. For good reason. They’re not even the best southern rock band.
38 Special?
Allman Bros & CCR would probably be in the convo
I personally don’t think CCR should be included in any southern rock list. Regardless of the sound, coming from San Francisco area should preclude you from being invited (it’s not even southern California). The Beatles and Zeppelin are the greatest rock bands ever, but I can see Skynyrd being the greatest American rock band. Their songs have definitely stayed good, no matter how old they’ve gotten (and how cringey the lyrics may be in this day and age, especially). Most other band’s sounds seem dated after awhile. Skynyrd has stayed good, even if it is definitely a ’70’s sound.
Yup, CCR is Californian.
Yes, but they’re still lumped into the “southern rock” realm.
I want the real thing, not vibes.

Top 20 American “Rock” Bands*
*We could probably argue more about the definition itself.
20) Guns N’ Roses
19) Foo Fighters
18) Allman Bros
17) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
16) Boston
15) Chicago
14) Nirvana
13) Steely Dan
12) Red Hot Chili Peppers
11) Grateful Dead
10) Pearl Jam
9) CCR
8) Aerosmith
7) ZZ Top
6) The Doors
5) Metallica
4) Beach Boys
3) Van Halen
2) Eagles
1) Lynyrd Skynyrd
^ This is insane. I’m taking my talents to mgoblog.com
They’ll probably have Billy Joel 1 through 5.
TP & The Heartbreakers(*solo):
These are just the “hits” – I know nothing of their/his entire discography, but that’s way more impressive than whatever Skynard can compile. (I get that part of that was due to longevity)
And are we omitting Talking Heads because 1) didn’t think of them, 2) don’t consider them in the Top 20 or 3) David Byrne was born in Scotland?
Or R.E.M.? I don’t enjoy them, but I understand them to be enjoyed by other people. Certainly in the Steely Dan – ZZ Top – Boston tier of “greatest”
If we’re not even talking about musicianship (which Skynyrd walks circles around TP) I’d still take the greatest hits from Skynyrd quite comfortably.
In the studio:
Lynyrd Skynyrd – 2 top 10 albums, 1 top ten single.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers- 8 top ten albums, 10- #1 singles, 14 other top ten songs.
That’s an ass kick’n.
In comes the nuanced discussion between “best” and “most successful”
Nickelback (not American) / Stain’d / Linkin Park can probably put up Tom Petty #’s but that doesn’t make them equal.
That, and we’re combining Petty’s band and solo work. Plus, he was around in the spotlight about 5x as long as Skynyrd.
FYI, here are the highest-selling American bands in history:
Eagles
Aerosmith
Bruce (gonna count him)
Metallica
Maroon 5
RHCP
Linkin Park
Bon Jovi (gonna count him)
GnR
Prince (gonna count him)
Santana
The Doors
Chicago
Beach Boys
REM
Van Halen
Journey
Foreigner
Tom Petty
Bob Seger
Nirvana
Kiss
Nope, my stats are not counting Petty’s solo work or Traveling W’s……and there’s no “nuance” in an ass kicking.
Pretty sure you’re counting his solo work.
Also, he’s never had a No. 1 hit, seems you’re citing the modern rock charts.
Anyway you add it up LS isn’t even the best band from Florida. Best band from Jacksonville? Maybe.
Sounds like someone was broken up with when “Tuesday’s Gone” was playing and has held a grudge ever since!
Or, maybe someone’s dad took a puck to the head
I did “break up” laughing when I read “LS might be the best American Band ever”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbMVdXLDRWQ
Here’s a 1977 show before the plane crash (they played “That Smell” before it was released so that’s cool).
It’s frighteningly amazing.
I like Petty, but he’s like yacht rock for dentist offices in comparison. Absolutely no doubt in my mind that Skynyrd’s legacy will endure (already has) more so than Petty.
Petty is certainly more accessible and radio-friendly.
Spotify listeners each month:
Skynyrd – 10.609 million
Petty (combining his solo work) – 13.497 million
I think it’s fair to combine TP with his Heartbreakers, given no one can name a single other band member. I think it would also be fair to include Springsteen’s solo stuff with his E Street stuff, Prince / the Revolution, etc.
It’s totally fair, but it highlights the “look at this longevity” aspect which can skew how I would determine best bands.
I know nothing of musicianship, but yes, I’d agree the guitaring in Skynyrd is better than that in TP. I feel like if you were to build a set list of 16-20 Skynyrd songs and put it up against the 20 I have above, the Tom Petty concert would be a more enjoyable concert. (I also think that the crowd I’m picturing at a Skynyrd concert is HEAVILY biasing me against Skynyrd) Additionally, GFY with the spelling of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
To go back to last week’s discussion – and I think we’ve both flipped our logic – Lynyrd Skynyrd : Chappelle’s Show :: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers : Key & Peele
Petty is more chill and enjoyable in that way. Americans had 40 years of being exposed to him.
Doesn’t make him better, IMO.
Doesn’t make him better, he just IS better.
Now I’m interested to know where Petty stands in your personal favorites!
Honestly, I don’t really have strong feelings on him one way or the other. Certainly not in my Top 5 Artists of All Time, but I don’t think I’m thoughtful enough to be able to compile a list like that. So, maybe he is? I think I’m more binary in my like/dislike of things.
ZZ Top is strangely high. And my opinion of the Eagles is the same as the Dude’s from The Big Leibowsky-“don’t play it.” I think the Steve Miller Band is better than both. Otherwise, I think this is mostly right.
Eagles hate is one of the worst things to come out of the Big Lebowski. Everyone references that part in the movie, too. It’s very strange to me.
SMB is a great choice, though. I also think Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band could be in there, too.
I wonder how many people really hate the Eagles, vs just think it’s funny to reference the movie line. I understand that people who lived through the 70s probably got massively overexposed to them, but now looking back, you have to admit that they have great songs.
Good call on Bob Seger. You’re flat wrong about Skynyrd, though
Lyrically love the Eagles. No wasted words, vivid imagery, rarely stretch for a rhyme. Lyin’ Eyes is pretty much perfect. On the solo work, the older I get the harder the lyrics of “The Heart of the Matter” hit me too.
I agree, I’ve appreciated and grown to enjoy the Eagles a lot more as I’ve gotten older. Not sure if that says more about my tastes or their music (aka not sure if real “rock” music is meant to appeal to an older crowd).
That said, I enjoy both types of music and neither of them appear on a list like this, so to each his own.
Good call on Steve Miller Band, they had a very strong 3-album stretch. Would also argue Van Halen is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too high on the list above, but I admittedly don’t know much of their work. Not sure how someone can reasonably deny the Eagles catalog has hits on hits on hits. Whether you enjoy those songs is different, but Glen & Don could write some tunes.
Any list that excludes Springsteen is invalid. Especially if it includes the RHFCP
That’s my slight, outside of a couple songs I love I really, really hate his music.
Hot take alert: the only good Springsteen album is Nebraska.
I have a friend who has been willing to die on this hill ever since I’ve known him.
Honestly the most cringe part of this list is having the Red Hot Chili Peppers above Nirvana. Perhaps having the chilis on the list at all lol.
What’s wrong with the Chili Peppers?
Mostly Anthony Keidis. The rest of the band is pretty damn talented I’ll give you that. I’d just swap out the chilis for like, the Smashing Pumpkins or Rage Against the Machine or something.
He boinked a 14 year-old, didn’t he? (Not suggesting perfect morality of any other bands/band members on the list above)
Ohhh, I totally spaced on Pumpkins and RATM.
I’d bump GnR for Rage, but that’s more my personal feeling.
I FORGOT DMB.
This is the real travesty. I’d have them really really really high.
I thought as a Buffalotonian [I assume this is the correct demonym, no one needs to attempt to correct me], you’d have Goo Goo Dolls cracking the Top 3.
And would DMB qualify as “American” if the Dave himself is South African?
sorry Drick beat me to it. I needed to scroll below. but pretty sure this DMB thread is giving away who is in their late 30s here
I thought the Goo’s were fine but too close to Dad Rock in their prime and then they quickly pivoted to Dad Rock after their initial success. They’ve never done much for me.
I need the record to show that I was 1,000,000% joking about the Goo Goo Dolls
Wait do they count as american? dave is from south africa. while the rest of the band is american I think the lead singer and namesake of band would disqualify them
I think they do.
Dave moved to the US when he was 2 years old. The entire band is American. Wrote and recorded everything here.
Hehehe ok we’re on similar enough pages after hearing this. Rage has one untouchably good record (self-titled) and two really solid follow ups, in terms of doing a whole more general ranking can see them unseating GnR. For my personal taste Rage would trump GnR by quite a bit and RHCP by a country mile. My personal taste is very punk/hipster leaning so I don’t even know where to begin, but I’d have to have Nirvana and Fugazi near the top. Sonic Youth, the Stooges, Queens of the Stone Age, and the National would also be up there.
I’m also partial to a band out of Detroit called the Armed but that’s like the most ridiculously intense maximalist hardcore band out there that most people would have to put some work in for it to be legible in my experience. But they are the proclaimed greatest band on earth so they got that going for them.
Considering that so many bands being talked about here consider them a major influence, you have to put the Pixies on the list.
Let’s not forget the Monkees, they were a major influence on the Beatles
Monkees gone to heaven ?
+1 for the National shoutout, definitely in my top 3 all time favorite bands. I’d like to sarcastically thank Taylor Swift for depriving us of a new National album by stealing so much of Aaron Dessner’s time and talent.
My hot take on the RHCP is that their lyrics are generally meaningless. Maybe not the choruses, but I think Kiedis mostly slaps lines and images together that happen to rhyme and hopes people will assume they’re thought out and deep.
This take is as cold as the gum you chew.
😄
Easy E, review Lincoln Riley’s new house challenge.
https://twitter.com/FOS/status/1501971624777637899
(Also the difference between OU fans handling Riley ditching them and Notre Dame fans general mentality about Kelly doing the same thing really couldn’t be any more different. I know the Freeman factor of having a cool, young, fresh rising star made BK’s departure a lot easier to handle, but I think deep down it’s also kind of a tough pill for Oklahomans to swallow when they see that link and realize it’s so much nicer than Norman, haha).
I’m hoping he spends too much time in his house and not recruiting.
Or, will he bring recruits to his house? We’re screwed!
E – I signed up for the F1 fantasy league. So, do we ‘draft’ a different team for every race?
Yes, I believe so. The pricing changes based on performance so Perez could cost $6 million more if the Red Bull’s look strong after the first race.
I’m still confused about how Michael Schumacher’s son can be old enough to race in F1 when Michael was just winning five consecutive world championships just a couple years ago.
I have to join the side of Petty was better than LS…I’d even include others like Pearl Jam and the Eagles above them. I’d add Nirvana too in terms of impact (but in a short period).
In case you missed it, there’s a cool interview with Cowherd and the Inside the Garage crew where they give a balanced and reasonable comparison of BK and MF.

Is Fleetwood Mac an “American” band? If so, are they any good?
I don’t count them no, and absolutely 100% legendary band.
They’re 60% British, but man, they couldn’t look anymore “California”:
I think this is from 1979 and the band had been living in LA for 5-6 years so that checks out.
Saw Boz Scaggs, Eagles and Fleetwood Mac at the old Schafer Stadium in Foxboro. Must have been Rumors tour. (79?)
What’s the “best” American band of 21st Century?
I can only think of a few suggestions and I don’t think any of them are great:
The White Stripes
The Killers
The Black Keys
Vampire Weekend
Kings of Leon
My Morning Jacket
The Strokes get a shout, too?
For me it’s either The Black Keys or Vampire Weekend.
It’s probably VW.
COYS COYS COYS!
I feel like The Strokes just had Is This It and then progressively did less and less.
Yeah, I get it. Their 2020 album is probably their 2nd best though.
Death Cab for Cutie ?
I’d 2nd MMJ, KOL & Killers.
I think The Killers would get my vote, even if it’s based 90% on Hot Fuss and Hot Fuss alone. Banger after god damn banger on that album.
My favorite American rock albums of the past 22 years are the Black Lips’ “Arabia Mountain” and the Black Angels’ “Passover.” Neither got much play, which is maybe why I still love them so much, so many years later. That said, the White Stripes would win. Even though they are sounding more and more dated, they have had the biggest hits and most longevity of anyone.
Wilco
Aren’t they a bit more 90’s?
Three albums in the mid to late nineties. Their best album was probably in 2001, several other great ones after that, and still releasing and touring
Saw Hamilton predicted as #2 pick from McShay.
Pretty wild to look back on his commitment post:
https://18stripes.com/2019-recruiting-s-kyle-hamilton-commits-to-notre-dame/
Number 644 overall. Hilarious.
At the New Mexico game after we were forced to punt by the overwhelming strength of the Lobo defense I was talking with my brother and said something like “The best player on the team this year might be the backup safety behind the two captains. Watch for 14 to come on the field.” The pick six on his first play, he came in with the nickel package on third and long, caused some hilarious reactions in the couple rows in front of us. I really hope for his sake he gets one of those 2-4 slots. Absolute legend.
Lynyrd Skynyrd can’t be the #1 American rock band. They fly the confederate flag, not the American one.
That’s talked about in the documentary on Netflix which I think sheds a lot of light on the music industry.
But, this is a good point that for a lot of people who don’t like LS it’s not always about their music.
Mr. Murtaugh, there are a couple of folks from Seattle who would like a word with you regarding American rock bands. Kurt, Eddie, and Jimi I think their names were. I don’t know, it was really loud and hard to hear over their music.
Nirvana and Pearl Jam made my list.
Jimi Hendrix Experience was 2/3 British and formed in London.
Another omission – I think Alice in Chains is by far the best of the grunge bands. I’ll take Jar of Flies by itself over Nirvana’s entire catalog or Pearl Jam’s entire catalog. Not complaining Eric, thanks for doing this!
AIC was featured in the Rambler a few weeks ago, but that is a spicy take indeed.
The TV chart was really cool, I love videos like that. I was surprised to see The Simpsons only had one brief appearance, and I think it was pretty much due to the “Who Shot Mr. Burns” story. That was a fun pop culture moment in the ’90s and a big part of the zeitgeist during that era, at least from what I remember as a kid anyways.
Was the absolute heyday of Butterfingers. Never did get a wrapper with Maggie on it.
Skybyrd is a great band. I would have to put The Beach Boys on top by far. The influence the eagles greatest albums. Pet sound and Good Vibrations are the the top echelon. Of rock songs. The Ursa were America’s answer to the British Invasion after ruling the charts for so long. No one mentioned Velvet Underground either.
Does Weezer or Green Day sniff this list? I like one of the two, but not sure if they qualify as good or whatever the metric is.
Also, dismissing TP because of their longevity is a bit unfair, as most of the bands on this list either have 35+ years of music or were formed 40+ years ago. The “newest” band on the Top 20 is Foo Fighters which is still mid 90’s (and a quasi-continuation of Nirvana from the late 80’s)
I would think Journey, Bon Jovi and The Ramones deserve mention.
How is longevity a negative ?
Eric was suggesting TP had so many hits more because they’ve been around a lot longer than Skynyrd
It’s not just that.
Skynyrd released 5 albums in 5 years all as good or better than the best handful of Petty’s albums. Then they were gone. Steve Gaines might be considered a Clapton-esque guitar/songwriter today but he died after 1 album with Skynyrd.
Petty got to alternate through very good albums, okay albums, and some poor albums for like 14 years. Then he’s in the Wilbury’s, then he hooks up with Jeff Lynne to produce 2 big solo records and now his music career has legs for 4+ decades.
There’s basically no one under 65 who ever saw Skynyrd in concert. In comparison, Petty played an ungodly amount more shows, benefitted immensely from a boost via MTV, then the popularity of CD’s, and being in the spotlight (for his age at least) in the internet era.
The cultural impact of having that advantage of time in that era is immense, more important than “hits.”
Specifically in TP vs. LS of course there’s more hits for the former. It’s like people who say the Stones are better than the Beatles because they have X more gold records. They should, they’ve been a band 8x longer!
Haha….what horseshit….so all their success is a negative? If and buts and candy and nuts.
Dude, calm down seriously. Go take a nap or something. I didn’t say anything of the sort.
You’re really getting worse and worse at arguing in bad faith.
We can make a top 50 list with all the mentions.
The Cars and Stone Temple Pilots are two more in contention.
For next week, let’s do British. And then after that we can combine and see how many American bands even crack the top 10 after Beatles, Stones, U2, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin…
Eric’s #1 would be Duran Duran, though
Duran Duran >>>>> Radiohead so let’s get that out of the way now.
“Duran Duran >>>>> Radiohead so let’s get that out of the way now.”
If this is truly how you feel you’ve disqualified yourself.
I don’t know enough of either catalogue, but that “jugh-jugh” guitar in Creep is maybe my favorite .12 seconds in any song ever.
That being said, Rio rules.
Everything after OK Computer is a tough listen, IMO.
Radiohead are better but I like Duran Duran more, personally.
Also, U2 are famously Irish, not British.
Regarding CBS, there were some acceptable sitcoms in the early 00’s (most of which probably don’t age well):
King of Queens
How I Met Your Mother
Everybody Loves Raymond
Two and a Half Men
Yes, Dear
Rules of Engagement
The Big Bang Theory
It pales to NBC’s sitcom line up, but probably still crushes ABC & Fox
