Notre Dame recruiting kept its hot streak rolling when receiver Devin Fitzgerald announced his commitment to the Irish on Saturday. The 6’2″, 205-pound Arizonan and son of all-time NFL legend Larry Fitzgerald was the second NFL legacy receiver to join the class in a 24 hour period, following Kaydon Finley’s July 4th announcement. Fitzgerald also hails from Brophy Prep in Phoenix, which also provided the 2026 class with CB Cree Thomas and the 2022 class with All-American Ben Morrisson. Should probably continue to check in there from time to time, just a thought. Fitzgerald has turned some heads lately, most notably at the star-studded OT7 Championship, and could climb the rankings in the fall with senior film. Whether he does or not, the Irish staff is very confident that they landed a serious player.

Notably, as you can see, fellow Irish commit Joey O’Brien was named overall MVP of the event. What a class…

Recruiting Service Rankings

247Sports Composite — 3 star (.8883 rating), #454 overall, #72 WR, #7 in AZ

On3 Consensus — 3 star (88.06 rating), #524 overall, ##82 WR, #6 in AZ

The 247 Composite and On3 Consensus both combine 247, On3, Rivals, and ESPN rankings.

247Sports — 3 star (88 rating), NR overall, #97 WR, #7 in AZ

On3 — 3 star (87 rating), NR overall, #150 WR, #14 in AZ

Rivals — 4 star (5.8 rating), NR overall, #57 WR, #5 in AZ

ESPN — 3 star (79 rating), NR overall, #71 WR, #6 in AZ

Irish Sports Daily — 4 star (90 rating)

Note: Jamie does the recruit evaluations for ISD, and we trust his evals as much as anyone’s; while the 247 Composite and the On3 Consensus don’t factor in ISD evals, we put a lot of weight on them ourselves. ISD only ranks the top 50 prospects in each class, and hasn’t ranked 2026 yet. Based on past classes a 95 rating would be the bottom end of their top 50.

Cohort

In addition to Notre Dame, Fitzgerald holds offers from Arizona State, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Kansas State, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, Stanford, UCLA, and Vanderbilt. He took officials to Notre Dame, Clemson, Stanford, and UCLA, and canceled an official to North Carolina after his visit to Notre Dame.

Highlights

Fitzgerald took a big jump in the offseason; if you read the OT7 reports that describe the ways he outplayed his ranking and then look back at this film, you can see hints at what would come this spring. 247’s Andrew Ivins said “Larry Fitzgerald’s oldest son pairs a muscled-up frame with sticky hands and advanced route running.” On3/Rivals recruiting director Charles Power said he “has a knack of finding his way open, especially against zone defenses… and we feel better about [him] after seeing him in person for three days.” On his junior film you can see the size and strength, whether Mossing a guy for a score or pancaking a hapless defensive back. His footwork off the line looks really good and he shows some sneaky acceleration and long speed. He has an excellent catch radius and, as noted, soft hands. His dad taught him well and he learned it well.

Impact

Just as we noted with Finley, there are so many bodies and so much uncertainty at receiver right now that it’s hard to say how Fitzgerald fits into the puzzle in the short term. I do think he’ll come in physically ready for the college game and with a pretty high level of polish, so he likely will be better equipped to contribute early than most freshmen. Whether or not he’ll be asked to, we’ll see. Beyond that I think he has all the talent he needs to be a multi-year starter for the Irish and blaze his own path – he said he wants to be known as “Devin,” not “Larry’s son,” on the field and I think he’s on his way to that.

Welcome to the Irish family, Devin!
