Our #1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s lacrosse team welcomes nine freshman this season. Even with a roster as deep as the one the Irish have, this group will certainly contribute critical minutes to the team. They’ve already impressed in the fall and preseason scrimmages. We’re excited to see them play and present them to you below with their jersey numbers as a guide for your viewing of the Notre Dame lacrosse season.

#14 Jordan Faison:

We have gotten to know Jordan a lot from his time playing on the Notre Dame Football team, leading them to a pretty good season and Sun Bowl MVP honors. The Fort Lauderdale native has had himself a great lacrosse preseason, contributing a lot of goals in the scrimmages. He always seems to find separation.

#15 Andrew Greenspan:

Greenspan is a face-off specialist from Scarsdale, NY who played at Brunswick in Connecticut. He is a quick at the dot who can win it to himself and isn’t afraid to push transition. Don’t be surprised to see him have a role in with the faceoff unit early in the season.

#36 Brock Behrman:

Behrman is an attackmen from Macedonia, OH outside of Cleveland, via Salisbury School in Connecticut. When it gets in tight he has great craftiness and speed that makes him a difficult player to guard. He has a great shot from range when given the space making him valuable from all parts of the field.

#37 Nate Schwitzenberg:

Schwitzenberg is a physical defender coming from Arlington Heights near Chicago. He isn’t afraid to use his body and is a force to be reckoned with. He is a great on ball player and amazing with slides. When he gets the ball, he is more than willing to push transition. He’s a favorite of our colleague Drew Brennan from OneFootDown, and Drew has a great track record of recognizing players who will contribute significantly for the Irish.

#38 Karter Williams:

Williams is a very tall, tough defender from Concord, NC. He is very physical both on defense and in transition. He plays hard and slides even harder. When he gets the ball he will push transition and is a confident ball handler.

#39 Anderson Davis:

Anderson is a local South Bend player from St. Joseph HS. Like Karter Williams, he is very tall and rangey. He is very prominent in the transition game and is a threat to score or use his quick stick work to beat a man in transition.

#46 Andrew Donovan:

Donovan is a quick midfielder from Greenwich, CT, who played with fellow freshman Andrew Greenspan at Brunswick, and who is the younger brother of LSM Will Donovan. He is a confident 2-way midfielder who has a great dodge and plays physical defense. His 2-way factor makes him great in transition and he will use his game knowledge to make the most of fast breaks. We’re glad to read his favorite hockey player is Ilya Kovalchuck, a favorite of Atlantans as well.

#90 Shawn Lyght:

Lyght is a quick defender from Scotch Plains, NJ, who has been really impressive in the preseason. Of all the freshmen, he seems most likely to make an immediate and critical impact for the team. He has great stick work and makes great checks. He will push people around on defense and is a ground ball machine. He isn’t afraid to push transitions and will use his speed to get it lacrosse the field quickly. Of course, like the other freshman defenders, Shawn is very tall and rangey.

#99 Gavin Burlace:

Gavin is a great midfielder from Maryland. His older brother is new grad transfer defenseman B.J. Burlace. Gavin has a great step down shot from range but will get in close and physical when needed. He will also play defense and is very physical and will push transition hard when given the ball on the defensive side.

We look forward to seeing this group play, and we have every expectation that this season we’ll see a great many of these freshman hit the field and make significant contributions to the
national championship defense!

The Irish open their season this Wednesday versus Cleveland State. We’ll get a preview up for your reading pleasure the morning of the game.
