Welcome to the finale of the ND Basketball's Missed Leap series, where we're discussing the causes of Notre Dame basketball's failure to take advantage of its back-to-back Elite Eight trips in 2015-16 and make a more lasting impact on the college hoops scene at large. I'll concede up front that this last thing that slowed [...]
Welcome to Part 2 of ND Basketball's Missed Leap. (By the way, if Notre Dame wants to keep winning games in the final seconds, we're totally willing to extend this series as long as necessary to keep that going.) Last week in our series on what happened to keep Notre Dame basketball from making The [...]
It's sort of hard to believe we ended up here. Notre Dame men's basketball made two straight Elite Eights in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, something no other program could claim. Since those runs, ND has played in precisely two NCAA tournament games, both in 2017 (a fine team in its own right that just [...]
Sweet, sweet bowl victory! Irish held Iowa State to only 9 points aka the fewest points @NDFootball's given up in a bowl game since the 1993 Cotton Bowl! #GoIrish pic.twitter.com/VHAnrA9Fm0 — The Fighting Irish (@FightingIrish) December 28, 2019 The mood around the Notre Dame program wasn't great this week. As the Camping World Bowl approached, [...]
Another year, another 10-win season. There's a sentence that Notre Dame fans aren't used to seeing. The Irish capped off a 10-2 regular season Saturday with a 45-24 win over Stanford that ended the way you want all ND games to end - with the biggest drama being whether the Irish give up too many [...]
You don't want to hear what I have to say about this game in particular. Besides, if I did, it would be very NSFW. What I have after tonight's game are questions. A lot of questions. A few of them for your perusal, and maybe some attempts to answer them: Why does this keep happening? [...]
Those of us of a certain age (read: anyone over 20) remember when the idea of beating USC at all was a fantasy. The Trojans owned the Irish in the decade of the 2000s and it seemed like it would never end. It's important to be mindful of those dark days before jumping to the [...]
There was pretty much nothing to take from today's 52-0 Notre Dame win over Bowling Green except that it was great to see ND, for the second time this season, take care of a totally overmatched opponent. It says a lot about the team's focus level. For the record, I have no problem with playing [...]
This one felt a little different. Not a lot different, but a little. I suppose that's an easy sentiment to dismiss. The ramblings of a biased Notre Dame fan. That's alright. I'm just telling you what I felt. Notre Dame lost another close call against a presumed elite team, basically a yearly ritual for this [...]
With all due respect to the first two opponents on the Notre Dame schedule, everyone with a pulse knew in August that this season will likely be determined by what happens next Saturday at Georgia. Nothing has changed in that department after the Irish's 66-14 rout of New Mexico, a game that bore a slight [...]
There was a time, not so long ago, where Notre Dame beating a Power 5 team - any Power 5 team - by 18 points on the road would've been cause for celebration, if not a parade. The two most talented Notre Dame teams of the Brian Kelly era prior to the 2016 debacle and [...]
(Photo credit: UND Twitter) Last season, Notre Dame hockey went on a run of heart-stoppers that might be unmatched in NCAA history, winning 3 straight tournament games in overtime or in the final seconds of regulation. Welcome to Cardiac Kids II. ONWARD TO VICTORY. The Irish meet UMass on Saturday at 6:30 with a third [...]
(Photo Credit: UND.com) As long as Notre Dame has to wear that B1G logo on their jersey, continually winning the conference is pretty cool. And the Irish repeated as league champs Saturday night with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Penn State, securing a return trip to the NCAA Tournament (and, as a footnote, Jeff Jackson's [...]
You devote a lot of time to following your team. You watch every game, obsess over every nugget of information, and sometimes, you get a run of awesome play and are lucky enough to root for a team that gets to the College Football Playoff. Then the team's most indispensable player, its consensus All-American at [...]
Notre Dame got the matchup everyone was anticipating for weeks, as it turned out, as the Irish were seeded #3 by the College Football Playoff selection committee and placed into the Cotton Bowl against Clemson, a game that will kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 29 on ESPN. The @CFBPlayoff Semifinal at the [...]
