Notre Dame is in the College Football Playoff after defeating rival USC 24-17. As inspiring as it was to see the Trojans play a terrific first half and make the Irish sweat a bit in the second, a no-show job like the UCLA game the week before would've been ok. In any case, 12-0 has [...]
Notre Dame beat Northwestern, 31-21. To paraphrase our old friend Dory, "Just keep winning, just keep winning, just keep winning, winning, winning..." This game shifted back and forth a few times, seemingly at random. One minute it was a dogfight. Then it was a ND blowout in the making. Then it was a slog. Then [...]
The first half was nearly perfect, the second half decidedly not, but the result was a relatively easy 44-22 ND victory over Navy that sent the Irish to 8-0 and, at minimum, a #3 ranking on Tuesday when the committee unveils its first top 25. It looked very briefly like another annoying ND/Navy slugfest when [...]
This team is different. They're not going to play down to the competition. The offense is too good to let that happen. That was the subtext, if not the text, of the bulk of the national media's discussion of Notre Dame this week. So with Pitt, tormentor of worlds (see 2008 and nearly 2012), coming [...]
For the record, I'm sorry for the easy pun headline, but come on, on a night ND's own Twitter account turned off the "No Trolling" sign, how do you not go with it? Exit sandman. Final: ND 45 - VT 23.#GoIrish☘️ #NDvsVT pic.twitter.com/mPCgI59e03 — Notre Dame Football (@NDFootball) October 7, 2018 The Irish won 45-23. [...]
Ladies and gentlemen, start your Notre Dame playoff scenarios. — Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) September 30, 2018 This is not a conversation I thought we would be having a couple of weeks ago, but Notre Dame is officially in the race after creaming Stanford Saturday 38-17. Before the game, at least one 18S writer asked the [...]
The talk about Notre Dame going into the 2018 season at least partially revolved around whether the defense might be as talented as the 2012 unit that propelled the Irish to a 12-0 regular season. Through three games, we don't have a clear answer on that question, but the season as a whole sure seems [...]
I swear, I could never hear the sentence "Shea Patterson is the difference" again and it would be too soon. For five months, that was the talk. Michigan finally has a real quarterback. Michigan's offense is gonna be unleashed. Well, there are still 11 games to go, but Michigan's offense looked pretty much like they [...]
Notre Dame hockey will play for a national championship tomorrow night thanks to yet another heart-stopping victory in what's become a spring full of them last night. The Irish's Jake Evans scored the winning goal with 5.2 seconds to go to give ND a 4-3 win over Michigan. That sends ND on to the finals [...]
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the off-season...The annual gut-punch comes early. This time the damage wasn't done by a player's off-field mistake, but by a coach's increased paycheck. Mike Elko, defensive coordinator and almost indisputably the best thing to come out of the 2017 season for Notre Dame, decided [...]
There are so many questions about Notre Dame football as 2017 ends and 2018 begins. But for today, at least, you can answer them all with "Doesn't Matter, 10 Wins". Because Miles Boykin made a ludicrous, insane, wild play to score the winning TD and the Irish held on to win, 21-17, delivering a 10-win [...]
All week, ND players and coaches basically apologized for what happened in Miami 2 weeks ago. They swore up and down that this week of preparation went better leading up to a game the Irish had to win to make a New Year's 6 bowl. It seems pretty clear they were just trying to convince [...]
Some quick hits after Notre Dame narrowly kept alive hopes of reaching a New Year's 6 bowl game with a 24-17...I guess technically it's called a win against Navy... - I knew we were in for a long afternoon when ND came out and passed 3 consecutive times. I know Brian Kelly and OC Chip [...]
A few scattered thoughts after ND no-showed in a big game for approximately the millionth time in the last 23 years (and yes, I posted it with 8 minutes left, because who cares): - Josh Adams and Brandon Wimbush were probably not healthy all week. - The #FireKelly brigade is going to be back, telling [...]
This is what the 2017 ND football team hath wrought: The Irish just tied the school record for offense in a game, and the vast majority of ND's fan base is annoyed with the result of what was a 48-37 win over Wake Forest. Unfortunately, it probably won't matter to many on the outside that [...]
