About Brendan R

People who know me best say that I'm sociable, have a dry sense of humor, a predilection for useless trivia, and can obsess about meaningless details. I'm happily married to a woman who thankfully still hasn't figured out that I married up, and we have three great kids, all boys who are trying to destroy our house in stages. They're quite efficient at it, too. In what time I have left over after the various cleanup efforts, I'm a sports nut, a science geek, an unabashed Shakespeare lover, and an aspiring 50-state marathoner.

2021 Football Recruiting: Colzie Redux

In a very welcome development, blue-chip WR Deion Colzie recommitted to Notre Dame today. He committed almost a year ago (which made us very happy) and decommitted about six months ago (which made us sad, no link but trust me), throwing his recruitment completely back open when he did. After his decommitment he picked up [...]

2020 Slack Gameday Chat

Welcome to the Duke Gameday Chat! A few years back we switched to Slack, a very popular chat and collaboration tool, for our gameday chat. Slack boasts much better functionality and ease of use, and it also works waaaay better on mobile devices. Reminder (or intro, if you’re new to it) on the ground rules: Real [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: Elite OG Rocco Spindler Commits to Notre Dame!

Notre Dame added some weight, literally and figuratively, to the top of its 2021 class today when top 50 offensive lineman Rocco Spindler announced for the Irish at his high school. The 6'5", 315-pound Michigander became the third top 50 member of Notre Dame's class today, joining #41 Tyler Buchner and #50 Blake Fisher. Spindler [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: TE Mitchell Evans Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame’s recruiting roll continued today when 2021 TE Mitch Evans announced for the Irish. There was some recent buzz that the 6’6”,  240-pound Ohioan might stretch his recruitment out, but that buzz was apparently off base. As did a few other recent commits, Evans took a quasi-independent visit to campus recently; he came on [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: RB Logan Diggs Commits to Notre Dame

Tyler Buchner finally has a backfield mate! Notre Dame added a long-desired running back to its 2021 class today when Logan Diggs announced his commitment for the Irish. Notre Dame made a big move for the 6'0", 195-pound Louisianan when they offered and he reportedly considered committing, but he wanted to take visits anyway when [...]

2022 Football Recruiting: TE Jack Nickel Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame added its second 2022 commitment today when TE Jack Nickel announced for the Irish. The 6'4", 230-pound Georgian recently made an independent visit to campus, like recent 2021 commit Chance Tucker, which no doubt was a key factor in his decision. Prospects can't interact with anyone acting in an official capacity for the [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: CB Chance Tucker Commits to Notre Dame

Grab your smelling salts: Notre Dame's 2021 class added its third cornerback today when Chance Tucker announced his pledge to the Irish. The 6'1", 170-pound Californian's recruitment reportedly was jolted, in a good way, by a stealth July 4th weekend visit with his father. Tucker is at least the third - what should we call [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: Offense Big Board Launch

The clocks have jumped ahead, the weather inches ever warmer, the birds warble their reveille once again. You know what that means - time to revive the Big Board! YEAH BUDDY! Huh? Spring, you say? Oh... Well, I guess it's a sign of that too. We hadn't noticed. Nice. In more significant news, we welcome [...]

Put It In The Books: Closing Out the 2019 Preseason Predictions

My father once said that the definition of mixed feelings is watching your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your new Cadillac. That feels like an apt description of Notre Dame's 2019 season - it was mostly very good, but the Caddy went careening over the precipice in Ann Arbor and it's impossible for that [...]
