In this installment of the Big Board, we take a look at the defensive tackle position. With Darnell Ewell joining Kurt Hinish on the interior, Notre Dame now has two DT commits. Jonathon MacColister could also eventually move from SDE to 3-Tech. Is Notre Dame in the running for any other tackles? Let’s take a look.
Score | Name | State | Ht./Wt. | Temperature |
---|---|---|---|---|
.971 | Jay Tufele | UT | 6-3/297 | Cold |
.952 | Greg Rogers | NV | 6-3/305 | Cool |
.898 | Donovan Jeter | PA | 6-4/265 | Mild |
.897 | Martin Andrus | CA | 6-1/280 | Cool |
.883 | Noah Elliss | CO | 6-4/330 | Cool |
.880 | Dalyn Wade-Perry | NJ | 6-3/341 | Mild |
In Play:
Jay Tufele is a large tackle out of Utah. Unlike many, Ohio State looks to be in a great position for Tufele, even with Jarron Cage and Haskell Garrett on board already. Ohio State really, really wants Tufele still. His other leaders are Michigan and Utah.
Greg Rogers has a top six of Oklahoma, UCLA, USC, Colorado, Arizona State, and Michigan. Earlier in the summer Rogers looked to be the next DL commit for Notre Dame, but the sides seemed to eventually part ways. Notre Dame does not look to be in play for Rogers unless circumstances change.
Martin Andrus listed Notre Dame in his top 10 earlier this summer, but the Irish don’t look to be a strong contender for him at this point. Andrus will likely play his college ball in the Pac-12 unless Nebraska or Michigan lure him away. USC is the 247 crystal ball leader.
Donovan Jeter is a Pennsylvanian who seemed to be headed for Penn State or Pitt. But not so fast, James Franklin! Jeter recently tweeted this, which indicates the Irish might have a decent shot at yet another (and another, and another, etc.) Pennsylvania recruit:
Might happen….I’m strongly considering them… Notre Dame is back in play #ND 🍀🍀 https://t.co/UzZGQz3jyq

Noah Elliss is the son of former NFL Pro-Bowler Luther Elliss. Noah is a quiet dude who does not even have Twitter. Yes, some people don’t have Twitter! Craziness. He has kept very quiet in his recruitment, but his dad went to Utah and they would love to add Noah.
Dalyn Wade-Perry has been between two schools for some time now: Notre Dame and Stanford. The general notion is that if he gets accepted to Stanford, he will likely be headed to Palo Alto. If not, he will be headed to South Bend. However, with the recent commitment of Darnell Ewell, that plan could be clouded. It is very uncertain at this point whether or not the Irish have a spot open for Wade-Perry.
Off the Board:
Kivon Bennett committed to Tennessee at the end of June.
Breyon Gaddy, like Bennett, is a Tennessee Volunteer.
Jeter’s brother plays basketball at Pitt – although they just hired the coach he transferred away from and who blocked his transfer initially, causing him to go to a juco first. So I guess that could cut either way. I’d be pretty surprised if what he said was real, but hey, this is a funny business. You never know.
Yeah, I also think Jeter was just messing around with that tweet. Trying to add some mystery to his recruitment, I guess.
Unrelated to that point: Darnell Ewell is freakin’ ripped. He’s managed to bulk up to around 300 pounds without looking fat, which is pretty dang impressive for a 17-18 year old.
Yeah – kids like that make me feel even worse about my squishy self. Come on, guys, you’re not helping our game.
