The #5 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish mens’ lacrosse team welcomes 13 freshman for their 2022 championship campaign. We can’t help but notice that our 18 Stripes colleagues on the football side of things pretty much lose their minds at the thought of one 5-star recruit in a class. Here we welcome FOUR, and the other nine aren’t too shabby, either. Coach Corrigan and his staff continue to attract the best student-athletes and assemble the best recruiting classes.

The boys arrive from across the country, representing the home states of Connecticut, Illinois, New York, Maryland, California, Minnesota, Georgia and Massachusetts.

Chris Kavanagh (#50) and Jeffery Ricciardelli (#1), Attack, Taft

We don’t think we’ve ever put two players under the same heading, but after watching these two work their magic on ESPN all summer for Taft, it seems fair to illustrate that these two arrive on campus with tremendous chemistry. Chris is the youngest brother of Notre Dame’s Tewaaraton Award hopeful Pat Kavanagh and Notre Dame all-time great Matt Kavanagh. Jeffery is the older brother of Thomas, the goalie recruit to join the Irish next year.  If the highlight reel to the recent scrimmage against Air Force is any indication, this pair continues to amaze, and they seem to gel well with big brother Pat.

Will Lynch (#22), Faceoff, Chaminade

The Irish gain the top faceoff athlete in the class.  Will seems likely to get plenty of opportunities to show what he can do this season.  He’s also not limited as a FOGO.  Lynch can push to the goal and shoot, and is confident enough on offense to force mismatch problems for teams who can’t get their less capable faceoff specialists off the field.

Will Angrick (#29), Midfield, Georgetown Prep

Like many members of this class, Angrick made the most of his opportunities in these last Covid-limited seasons, and he arrives on campus as one of the top freshman midfielders in the country and the IAC player of the year. He is a true two-way middie who is confident shooting with his left and right hands.  He was also the quarterback of his state championship football team.

Alex Zepf (#52), Goalie, Chaminade

Notre Dame welcomes another goalie from Chaminade, the high school team of Liam Entenmann.  Alex is a great stopper of the ball, and has great control of his rebounds, a critical skill at the college level.

Jalen Seymour (#26), midfield, St. Anthony’s

With all these Flyers on the team, we are please to report this class finally has a Friar to bring some balance.  Jalen is a very tall midfielder who we hope enjoys the same success that tall Domer midfielders have had the past ten years. He is also the summer club teammate of Lynch, Zepf, and Kavanagh, and arrives on campus with plenty of high-level experience with his teammates.

Fisher Finley (#54), midfield, Milton

We get excited whenever the Irish bring in an Atlantan!  Like Jalen Seymour, Finley is a very, very tall midfielder that arrives with Sergio size.  Injuries limited his late high school career, but we assure you he is a special player that fires rockets left and right handed.

Ronan Doherty (#37), LSM, Groton

Notre Dame gains another great, high-energy LSM.

Mason Wordelman (#47), Defense,  Benilde-St. Margaret’s

Mason defends well from X and is confident out in space.  He is an Adrenaline HS All-American and led his team to a state championship. Along with Doherty, he is one of the two defensive specialists in the class.

Ben Ramsey (#35), Midfield, Sacred Heart Prep

This Californian and US Lacrosse High School All-American has a great off-ball sense, and plays with his eyes up.

Michael Ridgway (#47), Midfield, Georgetown Prep

Has a pretty wild low-to-high shot that he fires with great accuracy.

Patrick Eilers (#59), Faceoff, Loyola Academy

Patrick is welcome support for the faceoff unit.  We understand he battled some injury late in his high school career, but he arrived on campus ready to go.

Logan Gutzwiller (#99), Midfield, Torrey Pines

A fast and persistent SSDM who really seems to enjoy his defensive role. It will be fun seeing him added to the long list of successful Irish rope units.  He is a US Lacrosse HS All-American.

If the Air Force and Colgate scrimmages are any indication, we’ll see a lot of this freshman class early and often this season.  It’s as talented a group as any in college lacrosse.
