The Irish have offered a lot of players at the wide receiver position this class and now have commitments from Jordan Pouncey and Michael Young. With two spots likely still open, which remaining targets do the Irish have a shot at? Let’s check it out.

In play
Donovan Peoples-Jones is still on Notre Dame’s radar, but it would take a significant upset to overtake Michigan for the 5-star talent. Michigan State, Florida, and Ohio State are other competitors for his services. He plans to early-enroll wherever he lands.
Trevon Grimes is a heavy Ohio State lean and will be attending OSU’s annual summer Friday Night Lights camp this weekend. He could very well leave Columbus this weekend as a Buckeye.
Joseph Lewis hails from Los Angeles, CA and is expected by many to play for USC when all is said and done. However, he surprisingly is revisiting Nebraska this coming Monday and will also be taking an official visit to Lincoln in the fall. Notre Dame does not look to be much of a player for Lewis.
Tyjon Lindsey appears to be another Ohio State lean. Nebraska, USC, and Oregon are other potential suitors. Lindsey has said good things about the Irish, but they don’t appear to be much of a legitimate player here. He plans on announcing his commitment at the end of August. Lindsey also used The Opening as an Olympic Trial for the U.S.A. Men’s Gymnastics Team.

Jerry Jeudy is an Alabama lean and it would be surprising to see him playing college football outside of SEC country. Miami could also be in play.
Devonta Smith, along with Jeudy, is expected to land in Tuscaloosa.
Osiris St. Brown, as we have long known, is going to end up at Stanford or Notre Dame. The Irish staff is confident that they will have the second St. Brown’s signature come February, His only goal left is to compare gameday experiences between the two schools, which should bode well for Notre Dame in the end.
Tarik Black is another wideout that Irish fans should feel really good about. Black has already, or is soon to, give a silent commit to his future school. However, he won’t publicly announce until the U.S. Army Bowl in January. Notre Dame is in the driver’s seat.
Hezekiah Jones recently released a top five of Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Alabama, Auburn, and Houston. At one point Notre Dame looked to be in the lead, but he now seems to be headed for A&M. Jones plans on committing soon.
Tray Bishop is down to Auburn, Florida, and Georgia. He originally planned on committing to his school this Monday, but he has postponed that decision. The Irish are not in play for Bishop.
Omar Manning recently made a jump in the 247 rankings and has stated that TCU is his top school. Manning is looking to take a visit to Alabama this summer, though, and he plans to announce towards the end of August.
Jeremiah Holloman is a Georgia native and the 247 Crystal Ball has him staying in-state to play for the Bulldogs. Tennessee and Ole Miss are other schools that could land Holloman. He plans to commit sometime this fall.
Tahj Capehart released a top 10 this summer and has not trimmed it down much further than that. Penn State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia are the main schools he is looking at.
Noah Igbinoghene was offered by Notre Dame in May, but there is likely not a spot for him in the class, even if he wants in. There has not been much buzz around his commitment.
Jamire Calvin is expected to land at Nebraska or Notre Dame at this point of his recruitment. Nebraska has been the favorite for a while, but Notre Dame could likely land him if they made him their top priority at wide receiver. Important to note, Calving is the teammate of DE target Hunter Echols. Notre Dame could eventually push hard in an attempt for a package deal.

Proud to announce that I’ve committed to the University of Notre Dame‼️🍀 #GoIrish #IRISHE17E pic.twitter.com/VqHyLNVHUT

Five-star wideout Tee Higgins committed to Clemson on the Fourth of July.
The Verdict:
Notre Dame is sitting in a terrific spot for their 2017 WR class. With Michael Young and Jordan Pouncey already committed, the Irish will look to land two more of their targets. Black and St. Brown look to be the most likely candidates at this stage. Calvin could also definitely end up Irish if the right situation unfolds. Regardless, the Irish should feel comfortable with where they’re at for WR’s at this stage of the recruiting cycle.
Let first say that I love the work you do. This is just some user feedback on the reading experience for future consideration. I know you all have lives outside the site so dont take this the wrong way, I’m just throwing it out there.
General suggestion: does the platform you use offer a way to make the site more mobile friendly (e.g. responsive design)? Articles are almost impossible to read; the font looks like it’s 5pt and you have to zoom in to read anything, meaning you can only read half a sentence at a time and have to track across and down the page like a typewriter to read. On my iPhone I just turn on the “reader” view to solve this problem, but that strips out all the graphic design and leaves just the words. That works for me, but I imagine that in the future you’d want the mobile reading experience to be branded in the 18Stripes environment, rather than the stripped down reader view that I imagine most reading on mobile are using.
Jusy my two cents. Wanted to throw that it there for what it’s worth.
Thanks and we’re aware of the issues. Basically, we have to take the lesser of two evils until we find a solution that permanently works best. With mobile functionality turned on comments nest really, really poorly. Much more unreadable than the articles with mobile functionality turned off.
At some point we’ll fix everything but for now we’re still really heavily viewed by desktop. So, mobile is off for the time being.
Thanks. I know y’all work hard and just got this thing off the ground. Thanks for the ever-stellar analysis and coverage.
I notice quite a bit of unused white space on the articles. Are yall using a columnar layout or just pixeling the alignment of items?
^ obviously this comment of for the site in generally, not this post in particular.
I view the site from my iPhone about 90% of the time. I have found that turning my phone sideways into landscape view makes things much more bearable.
Thanks for the hard work in getting this site up and running.
This is true. Turning your phone will definitely help.
Any help with reading issues on a Nokia 3210? I tried changing my face plate from orange to royal blue, but that didn’t seem to help. Playing Snake for 2 hours also didn’t make the site any easier.
Hijack… Snake must have the highest entertainment-value-to-application-complexity of any game ever developed. Loved that game.
All good design points, and like E said, we’ll work on it all down the road. Thanks for hanging with us while we work the kinks out!
As for the WR board… Dead on, Jaden – we’re sitting pretty. I think we’ll get Black and St. Brown, with little drama. If DPJ wants in we’ll find a way, but doesn’t seem like we’ll have to worry about that. Not often that we’re in a position to turn a kid like Holloman away, which says a lot about where we are.
