BIO:

MTA was rated as a 3-star defensive end coming out of high school, started his career as a defensive tackle, and finished 2021 as a strong-side defensive end which is where he’s being scouted by the NFL. He played immediately as a freshman showing plenty of promise only to break his foot early into his sophomore season. In 2019, MTA moved into a starting role where he’d stay for the next 3 seasons.

STRENGTHS:

Highly versatile lineman adept at playing inside or outside. Long arms and legs with surprising agility and athleticism. Decent burst off the line with very good long speed. Inspirational leader. Good footwork. Counters good blocking with quick change of direction. High motor player who always chases down the ball.

WEAKNESSES:

MTA has a tweener body. He lacks the size to excel on the interior in the NFL and isn’t a prototypical edge rusher either. High motor leads to playing out of control too often. Needs work on his hands and winning more one-on-one battles. Not a great finisher. Lacked production for someone with so much experience in college.

OVERVIEW:

MTA’s stock in the NFL Draft and near future in the league will come down to how a team views his abilities on the edge versus if he’s able to add size and play inside. He’s a tweener in a negative way who doesn’t offer excellent skills at either spot. But, MTA is athletic enough to warrant a shot with a pick.

PREDICTION:

6th Round, 211th Overall to the Los Angeles Rams

I would think that MTA is being looked at by NFL team’s who utilize 3-man fronts most of the time. The Rams first pick in this draft doesn’t come until the 103rd overall selection with the second coming at 141st overall. Late in the 6th round they have 3 compensatory picks where MTA could be a good landing spot given his skill-set and the Rams’ needs.

Los Angeles has someone like the hulking A’Shawn Robinson as a DT/DE combo although he’s entering the last season of his 2-year deal with the Rams in 2022. Maybe MTA could offer some depth and make the roster for a team without a ton of draft capital.
