If you’re like me the 2011 “Under the Lights” throwback uniforms worn on the road at night versus Michigan are among the best uniforms in Notre Dame history. In fact, I would argue they may be the greatest uniforms the Irish have ever worn.

Over the years I’ve read a lot of clamoring for a green home version of that uniform. Well, the school did make that exact uniform in the spring of 2012 except it was only for the fantasy football camp. They even put the upcoming 125th football season anniversary patch on the left chest which made me think the green would be worn either once in 2012 or full-time in the upcoming season.

I was sorely disappointed on both fronts.

So, my idea for today’s concept was to make a tweak to the 2011 white version–something different but something still resembling the original throwback.

I was aggressive and went with a bright golden yellow pants as the major difference from its predecessor. The yellow is used as the interior secondary color on the UCLA stripes located on the shoulders and the sock stripe. It’s also used on the Under Armour logo.

Instead of the bright kelly green from 2011 we switched in a darker green, similar to hunter green. This was done to off-set the bright yellow and not wash out the whole uniform too much.

There are a couple subtle tweaks to the helmet, as well. The back bumper–traditionally white on Notre Dame helmets–was switched to green. The traditional gray facemasks are switched to white in order to mesh better with the jersey.
