As you no doubt have noticed from visiting us over the years, few things get us going quite as much as talking football, especially when that talk includes Notre Dame. I checked in with Steve Bortstein at KQCL 1340 AM in New Mexico (@Fox1340AM / sports1340.iheart.com) last year to do a preview of the Notre Dame season. Even though he’s a USC alum, and even though he didn’t mention that until I was already on the air last time – crafty guy – he asked some good question and we had a lot of fun shooting the breeze on THE BEST SEASON IN SPORTS. (Sit down, Premier League fans, your opinions are not welcome here.) Heading into the new season, we got the chance to check in with Steve again – as you might imagine, he had some questions about the quarterback situation, the expectations Irish fans have for this year, the longevity of Brian Kelly at Notre Dame… Good stuff. Check it out via the iHeartRadio stream:
Get the “Banner of Doom” ready. I’m not talking about Butler.
Channel 57 ABC, is reporting 5 ND players arrested by Indiana State Police for marijuana. Max Redfield, Ashton White, Tevon Coney, Dexter Williams and Kevin Stepherson.
Redfield, Stepherson and Williams are also charged with possession of a handgun without a license.
Just when Redfield was coming round the corner too.
Marijuana possession is a misdemeanor, do we know what the handgun without a license charge amounts to?
According to twitter, also a misdemeanor: https://twitter.com/Matt_Fortuna/status/767006387566055424
So they can just do some laps and see them in Austin amirite
I think ND will come down hard on those with the gun charges.
And not the marijuana?
I have no idea but what do people think the punishments will be and should be (will they be the same?)?
What would they get at other schools? Somehow I think a few games for each of these things but I don’t know whereas at ND it seems like it will be a lot more severe (which it probably should be).
Harder for the gun charges than the ganja. My guess right now? If the gun charges stick, the player is done at ND.
Gun ownership is a Constitutionally protected right, it’s just in Indiana you have to file some papers to be allowed to carry them around. I don’t understand why a paperwork misdemeanor would get them permanently dismissed. I could see greater punishment for them with the two charges though, certainly.
So few games for weed, few games for guns and everyone is back by Stanford (7th game of the year).
I hope they see it like that gambit. I agree with you but having guns legally is already not PC and in the climate today will ND want to be seen as weak on “gun control/gun violence” (yes I know there wasn’t any violence but that won’t stop people from saying such things).
“Paperwork misdemeanor” certainly sounds better than Illegal possession of a firearm. If they had a gun in the car, you know they’ve had the same illegal firearm on campus. I think you’ll find most college administrations are horrified at the thought of firearms on campus. Let alone illegal firearms.
I was honestly thinking they’d get nothing at most schools, so they’ll probably get a few games each at ND. For instance Auburn’s players who were arrested earlier in the summer aren’t getting punished at all (outside of practice).

And what the heck do they have handgun for without a license? Do they think that is remotely necessary in South Bend? The marijuana I understand more (though I don’t think its right) – these are still kids, but a handgun without a license???? If you want one fine, just do it legally (there is no reason not to).
WOW. Seriously?! And Kelly was adamant that Redfield was turning the corner this year. Coney was at worst our 5th LB (with no one behind him). Get ready Tony Jones – you will be playing a lot more this year. @Will we remember these 5?@
NDNation with the 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 taeks – http://www.ndnation.com/boards/showpost.php?b=football;pid=125689;d=this
No thanks, I’m sure I already read all those taeks in text messages from my dad.
Over/under on the number of purple faces Kelly has had this morning set at 3 – does anyone have the courage to take the under?
