Welcome to this website’s off-season sports sartorial content. We are counting down the world’s top 50 most iconic sports uniforms. Only current uniforms apply, we are not including one-off or alternate uniforms. Let’s stick to the basics.
#42
Chicago Bulls
Put down your steakhouse menus, we’ve got back-to-back Chicago sports teams on the Top 50 countdown. Following the latest installment of the Chicago Cubs we now move to #42 and the Chicago Bulls.
My biggest problem with the Bulls was whether to include the home or away uniforms. Which one is more iconic? My research consisted of the following. One, when I close my eyes I picture Michael Jordan in the red. Two, it seemed like a majority of Jordan’s biggest moments with the Bulls came on the road. Three, when you do a Google Image Search for His Airness, it’s mostly him in the away uniform.
Without Jordan this is not an iconic uniform worthy of making this list, I think most can agree on that. Plus, the recent struggles of the Bulls isn’t helping things, either. If we re-did this list in 10-15 years it’s quite possible the coolness factor from years gone by will have left and people won’t consider this that great of a sports uniform.
Still, this is a sharp basketball uniform worth of discussion. They pull off the red/black/white as well as anyone and the striping accents especially are among the best in college or pro basketball. I wanted to pay homage to the shorts, which I think are the best in the NBA, too.
I have no notes on how to improve this uniform, although the old script “Chicago” logo on the jersey worn from 1973 through 1985, and used in many alternate uniforms since, is also a great option for the team.
Love that the justification for this uniform being included is Michael Jordan specific and you go and post a picture of a future-ex-Bull, Zach Lavine.
Disagree with Jordan making the uniform special. It’s an absolutely great uniform. Not trying to be anything it’s not. Doesn’t take big swings. Doesn’t leave anything out. Font is clean, logo is on there. If this uniform were anthropomorphized, its dad would have been a coach of NBA uniforms.
Huh, how many NBA uniforms make it? I guess the Lakers have to because they’re the Lakers, but their uniforms are actually kinda meh? Celtics for sure. But really most NBA uniforms are kinda meh tbh.
The real question is what do you do with what is, in my horrifically biased opinion, the GOAT NBA uniform – the 90s Hornets uniforms. Strong argument it’s can’t be that iconic if they don’t even wear them today, but also it’s a top-10 all-time all-sports uniform.
Is that you, Grandmama?
Not many NBA uniforms appearing.
Sadly, these did not make it:
Who would have thought pinstripes up top and not on the bottom would look stupid?
It is a crime that they’re not just using the Zo/LJ/Muggsy/Curry-era jerseys. And to replace it with that is just adding to it.
they do wear these at least
well they only don’t wear them today because george shinn is a piece of literal garbage but
