#1 CFL Stiff Arm

Next stop, the UFL? That may be the move for disgraced former Cincinnati and Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby who was rejected from the NFL (they won’t hold a Supplemental Draft) and this week got told a respectful ‘no’ from our neighbors to the north. In a statement to the press, the Canadian Football League said:

“Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL. The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning. At this time, the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no team will be permitted to add him to its negotiation list.”

See, that wasn’t that hard was it? Although, to be fair the CFL gets to say this after the NFL laid down the law first. Sorsby released a statement this week and stated he’ll be preparing himself for the 2027 NFL Draft. Anyone want to guess if he gets picked?

#2 Louisiana Talent

The list of recruits from the state of Louisiana to come to Notre Dame in modern times includes Jaiden Ausberry, Logan Diggs, Jerry Tillery, Lawrence Keys, and Michael Young. Both Ausberry and Tillery were just outside the top 150 in the Composite for their respective classes. Now, the Irish picked up their biggest talent from Louisiana perhaps ever.

Offensive guard Albert Simien committed to Notre Dame this past Friday and adds another 5-star to the class. The Sam Houston High School product from the southwest part of the state is currently rated as the no. 2 overall interior offensive lineman and no. 14 overall in the 2027 class. That slots Simien in as the 9th highest rated Irish commit of the modern era, just behind current classmate Oluwasemilore Olubobola.

#3 Barely Knew Ya

We didn’t even get one Rambler to mentioned that Bergen Catholic quarterback Trey Tagliaferri (0.9253) committed to Notre Dame on June 25th only for him to leave the Irish class this Thursday after five whole days. Welp!

Word in recruiting circles were that Oklahoma and Penn State were still pursuing him heavily and the Sooners look like they’ve made a fresh new NIL offer that won’t be matched by the Irish. So it goes, sometimes.

Uniform of the Week

Earlier this week, Georgia Tech announced a tweak to their school colors with their switch from Adidas to Under Armour. They were moving away from a paler gold and darkening their navy blue. Shortly after, Tech released their new uniforms and you can see a lot of UA-related inspiration from their treatment of Notre Dame. They released new gold and white helmets, white and gold jerseys, and pants in white, gold, and blue. Interestingly, as of right now there is no navy blue jersey. Especially with the pants, this looks a lot like Notre Dame’s mustard gold.

UA cooked here.

I don’t like the all gold or the white on top of the blue combination, but there’s an awful lot to like from this new closet. That gold looks nice! The drop shadow numbers look amazing. The combination of metallic and flat gold (seen best on the sleeve stripes) is unique and looks sharp. A small quibble that the blue is way too dark now (the pants look black to me). Otherwise, this is a cool and fresh new looking uniform that still keeps with Georgia Tech’s identity. Well done.

Media

I bet movie studios are scrambling to create more biopics than ever, especially music related films. Back in 2018, 20th Century Fox released a 2 hour and 14 minute music video (respectfully) in Bohemian Rhapsody and made just a little over $900 million. This week, Michael is poised to cross the $1 billion mark and move past Oppenheimer as the highest grossing biopic of all time. Remember, we have 4 separate Beatles biopic movies all dropping on the same day in April 2028. Will those all 4 combined to surpass $1 billion? Cut to Martin Scorsese only able to make $214 million with Leonardo DiCaprio in The Aviator back in 2004. Hey, it’s a different era now.

Which people would be good for a new biopic in the future? I’m trying to think of a list that I would give a movie studio. Here’s what I came up with while limiting to people from the last 100 years or so:

Charlie Chaplin
Bruce Lee
Babe Ruth
David Bowie
Prince
Walt Disney
Jimi Hendrix
Elizabeth Taylor

Tunes

I know we have at least a couple massive Rolling Stones fans in our reader base. I recently saw something about a mega band that doesn’t have a no questions start to finish elite album in their catalog and someone put the Stones atop that list. Is it true? Deep in my bones I’ve always thought it was true. First, we’d have to figure out which is the best Stones album. For me, it’s Sticky Fingers and I don’t think it’s particularly close. Esquire’s rankings popped up first on a quick Google search and they agree with me.

The album has 4 tracks that are among their best 20 songs in their entire catalog, and I’d put “Wild Horses” and “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking?” in the top 5 comfortably. Two other songs (“Sway” and “Dead Flowers”) are excellent B-sides. But that leaves 4 other songs from a 10-track album (just 46 minutes long) that are tough to argue offer much. Maybe that’s okay? For 98% of bands, filling 60% of an album with elite to good songs can make an entire career. But when I listen to something like “I Got The Blues” it’s hard to not to skip it, and you don’t want to do that on any legendary albums.

One More Thing

The Manning Passing Academy wrapped up recently with CJ Carr in attendance, among many other college quarterback talents. If you’re looking for the hype to subside around Carr heading into the 2026 season, this appearance didn’t help! This was Todd McShay’s comments on Carr when asked who the MVP was among the college quarterbacks:

“CJ Carr, Notre Dame. Wasn’t even close. Wasn’t even close. Julian Sayin was there. Arch Manning was there. There were a lot of other guys who were exceptional. His performances in throwing the football, that’s the jumping off point. Man, I know he’s Lloyd Carr’s grandson, and he’s been around the game his whole life.

You think about Brady and Brees, and you think about the modern-day, even Mendoza the last year, repetitive, repeatable form, mechanics, I don’t want to say robotic, because he’s not a robotic player but when it comes to footwork, timing, ball out, just standing there watching him even warming up. You always look for what’s different.”

Also, judging by this picture, Carr has added some significant weight this off-season:

Heisman contenders.

I noticed Carr was listed at 6’3″ and 210 pounds on last year’s roster and the current roster has him at 6’2″ and 215 pounds. Maybe he just came from lifting 14 seconds before this picture was taken but my goodness he looks every bit of 230 pounds. Is he on the Brady Quinn diet?
