Writing about 20 underrated sports uniforms from college football, NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA. One uniform at a time.
I remember the 2002 uniform redesign for the Seattle Seahawks and I loathed it. However, I have to admit that it eventually grew on me, the mix of darker navy and seahawks blue with lime green at least gave them a lot of modern character. Then, the team started winning. Since 2002, Seattle has won 9 division titles, made the playoff 15 times, and won the Super Bowl in 2013.
An entire generation has been used to their current uniforms with legendary players like Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch forever wearing those colors.
The Seahawks have worn their original throwbacks recently and just look at these in action:

Perfection?
This is one of the best uniforms in NFL history. They are a masterclass in simple but effective design. I don’t foresee Seattle changing back to these uniforms for good any time soon, but they should!
The team still incorporates plenty of silver into their uniforms today but not like this. The silver helmet and pants combination goes super hard and the blue/green striping on top of it is fantastic. The Seahawks 2002 redesign was so ahead of its time that it gets lost how modern they’re overall look is today. Moving back to something so basic like their throwbacks would be a huge 180, but I’d be willing to entertain keeping modern touches if they just went back to these colors with silver helmets and pants.
I believe they’re intentionally having Seattle wear these vs Tampa Bay wearing their white creamsicle uniforms this year
As God intended.
These two teams were probably a combined 3-29
Damn – Google Lens says this is 1976, teams went 0-14 & 2-12!
Shaun Alexander + Matt Hasselbeck + Bobby Engram in Madden ’05 made the Seahawks a fun dynasty to play
I’m cool with the new Seahawks colors, but I don’t like the weird carbon fiber-like sticker on the top of their matte helmets. It looks cheap
