Writing about 20 underrated sports uniforms from college football, NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA. One uniform at a time.

The original Baltimore Bullets took the court in navy blue and orange uniforms. The franchise kept the Bullets nickname when they moved to Washington, D.C. for the 1973-74 season but adopted a red, white, and blue uniform color scheme befitting the nation’s capital. The uniforms were loud, full of stripes and stars, and definitely of the era.

Ahead of the 1987-88 season, the team switched to a very basic uniform set with very little trim and kept these boring uniforms until a full re-branding to the Wizards nickname in 1997. With that change came the adoption of steel blue, bronze, and black as the new team colors.

Check out the Nets uniforms in the background lol.

While the move away from the Bullets name was probably coming at some point, the color switch wasn’t super popular. Fourteen years later, the franchise went back to red, white, and blue. They didn’t bring back the stars and stripes look in its entirety but the overall vibe of that uniform has been brought up to modern standards.

It’s been a dark period for the Wizards on the court trying to win basketball games (they haven’t won a playoff series in the past 7 seasons). If you’re going to close, at least look good! Their current set is really sharp. I like both the home and away almost equally but the red set has numbers that are a little easier to read so I picked those as the underrated option today.
