Nigeria

The timing of this isn’t great for any fans of the Super Eagles who are just coming off a painful Africa Cup of Nations Final loss to Ivory Coast. Let me raise your spirits with a decent placement on the top 50 most iconic sports uniforms list!

Full disclosure, Nigeria had the potential be much higher on this list. Back in 2018 ahead of the World Cup, the nation worked with Nike to unveil a new set of soccer kits that would take the sport by storm. In particular, they released a kit with a lime green “v” pattern across the chest and the same pattern in black across the sleeves that reportedly brought 3 million pre-orders after its February announcement and perhaps holds its place as the coolest soccer jersey of this century.

Nigeria rocked some bold kits back in the 1980’s and 1990’s (like many nations across the globe) but then fell into a pattern of some really conservative options for a couple decades. Nike took over in 2015, waited for a few iterations of new designs, and then have turned up the fun ever since.

Their new uniforms for 2020 were also excellent and ahead of the 2022 World Cup their latest set were unveiled with the home set pictured above. The jerseys have an elaborate pattern of a bunch of things that would take a separate article to hash out. However, in general Nigeria remain elite in mixing shades of green into their kit and continue to have one of the best national uniforms in sports.
