Marcus Freeman and Joe Rudolph are chugging coffee this morning, because man did they ever close on a prospect that it is literally and figuratively quite large when Grayson McKeogh announced his commitment to the Irish last night. Notre Dame was in good shape with the 6"8", 280-pound Pennsylvanian earlier in his recruitment before losing [...]
Notre Dame returns to the Meadowlands in northern New Jersey tomorrow to face a resurgent Navy program that's ranked for the first time since the end of the 2019 season. This is also only the third time since 1958 that both teams have entered the game ranked; the other two games were in 1978, when [...]
Hey everyone - real quick post here on gameday chat. For those of you newish around here, we use Slack for our gameday chat and archive the conversation shortly after the game. So emota-posting (within reason, lol) is ok in there as it won't live forever. We have the channel for tonight's game set up. [...]
You want some good news about the Irish football program? Well boy howdy do we have some for you. Potential five-star safety Ivan Taylor became the second member of Notre Dame's 2025 defensive back class today when he announced his commitment to the Irish. The 6"0", 174-pound Floridian bears a last name that many fans [...]
Some of you may remember that last year I savaged - appropriately, I would say - the Stanford Cardinal in the contemporary game preview post. Stanford came into last year's game 1-4, with the one win coming over FCS Colgate, and allowing 38.5 points per game to FBS opponents. They would finish the season allowing [...]
One of the more interesting recruitments in recent memory drew to an exhilarating and merciful close today when top 50 tackle prospect Guerby Lambert put the cherry on the sundae of 2024 offensive line recruiting. Long rumored to be a heavy Irish lean, the 6’7”, 280 pound Bay Stater had sweat-inducing dalliances with Ohio State, [...]
As of 3:30 PM Eastern Time this Saturday there will be one remaining FBS program that has never played an FCS program, and it won't be Notre Dame.* Joe Montana's Notre Dame will host Too Tall Jones's Tennessee State this weekend in the Irish's first matchup with a lower division team since the NCAA created [...]
Notre Dame added a critical piece to its 2023 class today when four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey flipped from Pitt to the Irish. The 6'2", 207-pound Tennessean was one of the first targets offensive coordinator Tommy Rees put on the radar when Notre Dame moved on from the talented but, uh, complicated Dante Moore in June. [...]
As the late great Yogi Berra said, it's getting late early out there. There are 164 prospects in the 2023 class with a known Notre Dame offer; 23 are committed to Notre Dame and a whopping 119 are committed to other schools, leaving just 22 uncommitted prospects still on the board in mid November. The [...]
Notre Dame picked up yet another electric playmaker in its 2023 class when running back Jeremiyah Love announced his commitment today. The 6'0", 190 pound Missourian is fresh off his second visit to South Bend; he was in town for one of the big June official visit weekends and just came back for the Marshall [...]
A few weeks ago in this very space, with Notre Dame sitting at 1-2 after a shocking loss to Marshall and a drama-filled close win over Cal, we said the offseason warm fuzzies for the Freeman Era felt like "a distant memory." Now the Irish are 3-2 after a sloppy but dominant win over North [...]
Marcus Freeman takes his charges to Tobacco Road to face the Tar Heels tomorrow in what has emerged as a surprisingly pivotal matchup for the first-year head coach. Come-from-ahead losses in his first two games at the helm of the program, a shocking loss to a theoretically overmatched opponent in his home opener, and a [...]
What heady times we live in... Notre Dame and Ohio State flipped back and forth for the #1 class ranking all July, with the Irish re-taking the spot right at the end of the month thanks to four-star cornerback Dion Johnson decommitting for the Buckeyes. Ohio State also lost out on a number of guys [...]
[fade in to gentle nature sounds] As the late summer sun sloughs off the demi-gloom robes of twilight, a landscape draws into view that is markedly different than the one the same heavenly traveler left us with not so long ago. The once-imposing Matterhorns that obstructed the precious natural resources the pride must hoard to [...]
Man, does it feel like this season snuck up on us. I said something similar when we put out last year’s survey, so maybe it’s just me, but it feels like opening weekend closed the final distance with shocking alacrity, like Sir Lancelot storming the castle in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Which is [...]
