About Brendan R

People who know me best say that I'm sociable, have a dry sense of humor, a predilection for useless trivia, and can obsess about meaningless details. I'm happily married to a woman who thankfully still hasn't figured out that I married up, and we have three great kids, all boys who are trying to destroy our house in stages. They're quite efficient at it, too. In what time I have left over after the various cleanup efforts, I'm a sports nut, a science geek, an unabashed Shakespeare lover, and an aspiring 50-state marathoner.

2021 Football Recruiting: S Khari Gee Flips to Notre Dame

Notre Dame landed a last-minute surprise in its 2021 defensive class today when safety Khari Gee flipped from LSU. The 6'3", 185-pound Georgian actually signed with the Irish on Wednesday and publicly announced today. LSU, by all accounts, did still want him despite landing three other safeties - five-star Sage Ryan, top 100 (and former [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: CB JoJo Johnson Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame picked up another defensive back in its 2021 class today when corner JoJo Johnson announced for the Irish. The 5'11", 180-pound Hoosier picked up his Notre Dame offer two days ago and wasted little time - none, if you believe some of the message board rumors - committing. Irish cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens [...]

2020 Week 11 Win Probability Matrix Update

Cheeseburgers were moderately helpful for Notre Dame this week, as five of the six remaining game win probabilities in SP+ and FPI inched upwards (the sixth stayed level, if you're wondering). The overall picture hasn't appreciably changed from last week; both models have it as roughly a coin flip for the Irish to win out, [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: OT Caleb Johnson Commits to Notre Dame

Not once, not twice, but three times this week Notre Dame football has flipped a prospect from another school. This time it's offensive tackle Caleb Johnson, whose recruitment was well under way when the Irish finally offered back in March. The 6'7", 295-pound Florida resident and Fort Wayne native had some natural interest in Notre [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: LB Kahanu Kia Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame laid another length in its Polynesian pipeline today when linebacker Kahanu Kia announced his commitment. The 6'2", 220-pound Hawaiian hails from Punahou, which is also the alma mater of current Irish linebacker Marist Liufau and former Irish players Manti Te'o and Robby Toma. Perhaps not coincidentally, Toma is currently an assistant at Punahou [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: K Josh Bryan Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame worked its second flip of the week on the recruiting trail when former Colorado pledge Josh Bryan announced his commitment to the Irish. Rumors have been floating for a while that the Notre Dame staff had some interest in the 6'0", 190-pound Californian, but in what was originally expected to be a tight [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: CB Philip Riley Re-Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame caught a rather important boomerang in its 2021 class when blue-chip cornerback Philip Riley announced his re-commitment on Tuesday. His recruitment was a bit of a roller coaster that might normally raise some red flags, but when you add context to it it's much less worrisome. A brief timeline: Riley, a Florida resident [...]

Georgia Tech Preview: They’re Not Murder Hornets

Geoff Collins's post-triple-option reclamation project continues in Atlanta. That's probably the best thing you can say about Georgia Tech football this season, as the Yellow Jackets sit at 2-4 and -110 on scoring margin. Yes, 66 of that deficit came in one game against Clemson, but they also lost by 28 to UCF, 17 to [...]

2020 Week 7 Win Probability Matrix Update

Blowing out a mediocre-to-bad team is a good thing! But not as good as you might imagine, apparently. FPI absolutely loved Notre Dame's performance against Pitt, while SP+ somehow viewed it as decidedly meh. Weird, but we'll get into it. Recapping the methodology for these articles: These aren't actual SP+ win probabilities, as SP+ creator [...]

2020 Week 6 Win Probability Matrix Update

Notre Dame's lackluster output against Louisville had much less of an effect in the advanced stats models than it did in our psyches - with one very notable suggestion, which we'll get into below. While the game was certainly a frustrating one for the fans, as far as the models are concerned things went non-catastrophically. [...]

2021 Football Recruiting: WR Jayden Thomas Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame's 2021 recruiting class added its third four-star receiver today when Jayden Thomas announced his commitment to the Irish. The 6'1", 205-pound Georgian has long been rumored to be a Notre Dame lean, with several ties to the program. He trains with fellow 2021 Irish commits Deion Colzie and Cane Berrong and attends the [...]
